How Important is B&P Vs Watch

I am looking for a 16520 A Series Black Dial.
I am in love with this Watch. I am surprised facing on his rarity. It is not so easy to find one in good condition.
I found some (1 or 2), but no papers.
I would have a question, how important are B&P against the watch itself?
Witch consideration would you make on this, before to buy?

Thanks for helping.

"VS the watch"? The B&P are relatively worthless without the watch.

Get a nice example and enjoy the watch. If you get one with B&P, then great!

Good luck.

There are collectors that prefer complete sets and those that do not - the condition of the watch seems to be the most important factor in a purchase. A complete set with a watch in average or below average condition doesn't get as much interest from collectors when compared to a stand-alone watch in much nicer or superior condition.

Either way, a nice, clean, no-excuses watch always seems to garner plenty of attention from collectors, whether it is part of a set or not.

In the current market, the Daytona 16520 sets seem to command a 30% premium, an additional $5000-$6,000, versus a stand-alone watch. (Premiums for the Patrizza dial variations are much higher.)

Good luck!

For me, B&P is crucial and I don’t buy a watch without them, for three reasons:

1. They add provenance and an interesting story behind the watch;

2. They tend to increase the likelihood of authenticity; and

3. Whoever took time enough to keep the box and papers over all these years tended to take better care of the watch.

Well said. IMO it's great but not necessary for me...far too many vintage pieces around that are great but not complete sets...but you have to understand if you want the set on vintage you're going to pay up big time..this isn't the $500 premium on a modern piece....make sure you research the hell out of the correct documentation/box/manuals for the set...so many cobbled "sets" these days to get that premium.

Well that is a very rough estimate. I think the world is divided in people who care about papers and people who don't. If I had the choice I'd go for the one without and buy more watches ;-)

Box and papers have no relationship to the watch. You look for the best watch example you can afford based on it's condition and how much you are willing to pay. Any accessories become bargaining chips afterwards. Essentially, it would be two transactions, one for the watch and one for the box and papers, both need the same scrutiny.

I would never pass on an excellent watch for a good price if it was a model I was interested in, just because the original buyer tossed the packaging; most people do.

You have to decide for yourself how much emphasis you want to put on the accessories. ;)
