70s Submariner, Repaired but looks different

70s Sub Mariner Day Date, Repaired but looks different ?
I had it since 1978
I was in Barcelona and took my watch in for repair, it was untouched by anyone only Rolex!
When i got it back the faded slightly of colored bezel that i had before seems to have been swapped for a new one, I'm wondering if they have swapped parts, does this happen ? I know its not a big deal but Iv had the Rolex since wew and like the old look ;-/

I liked the fact it looked old!
Cheers Aven

Sadly unless you specify a movement only service, they will swap hands, dials, cases etc whatever they think they fcan to make the watch look new and last another 30 years

If you are still near the area - and assuming you didn't get the old parts back- I would ask for the parts back as they technically belong to you

if you did get the old parts back then - keep them safe and over the next few years you will damage the new parts then replace with the original

When you took it in for repair did Rolex give you an itemised quotation?

Did you authorise the changes they made?

Normally they will not proceed with work unless a quotation has been accepted.

You have a submariner day date wow. just kidding. You can see if the repair facility still has your old parts. If you took it in and did not specify not to change them they likely did change your old looking parts

Any Rolex Service Centre I've frequented provides a quote on each proposed repair or part replacement (similar to when you bring your car into the mechanic). You can then agree or disagree to go ahead with each line. Check your receipt. Everything should be listed.

Don‘t think Rolex policy allows the return of replaced parts.

Not Rolex USA, but I always get my parts back after a service.

You could do a completed auctions search for a comparable insert and see what you think.

I want to know what Rolex does with all the rare vintage parts they harvest? Throw them out? Sell on Ebay?

They destroy them
No authorized repairer is allowed to sell or give away removed parts

As far as vintage goes - like dials, these contain tritium or worse radium, and must be handled and thrown away in a regulated manner
