New Member Introduction
Hi everyone, been reading this forum alongside TZUK for a couple of months now and thought it's about time I signed up. Posting in here as most of my story is about Rolex's.
I'm fortunate enough to currently own an Apple Watch, Tag Carrera, a BLNR (only waited 5 days for it in Dec 2016!) and more recently two non-date Sub's and a Hulk (2 month wait, there is a small story with this one) plus a lady date-just for my wife. I tend to wear the BLNR the most and though I've seen the threads here about how some people don't gel with it, I love mine! The bracelet has quite a few light scratches on it but I brought it to wear and not to sell. Now time for my introduction into watches. Always seen the watches on display at shops like Watches of Switzerland in Birmingham and thought wow look at how nice they are. Roll on a few years and my now wife was looking at getting me a watch as a wedding gift. It opened up my eyes to watches properly and my heart was set on a Patek Phillipe, little did I know how much they cost then. I ended up getting the Tag and I still wear it often. Roll on to November last year, a colleague got a BLNR and showed it to me. I was turning 30 soonish and with a 3 to 6 month wait, thought I'd get my name down as I could have the watch by my birthday and it would also be something to pass onto my son as we were expecting our first child. I put my name down the last weekend before Christmas at Goldsmiths in Bull Ring, and 5 days later got a call saying that they had a watch come in and it was mine if I wanted it. I was surprised at how quickly I got the call and the next day it was traveling home with me. Roll on a few months and rumours of a price increase saw me buy my wife the lady date as it was also her 30th this year. More rumours of a price increase had me looking into Sub's as I initially put my name down for a BLNR and a Sub date and was going to get whichever I got the call for. I ended up calling a few AD's close to home and a few weeks later had a call for a non-date which I got from a different Goldsmith's branch. Two weeks on, I get a call from Sam Pragnell's who said that they have a Sub date for me. I went to the AD and there was a mixup of some sort and there was a non date Sub waiting for me in the safe. With the price increase rumours (sorry for mentioning this so many times) coming up I thought I'd buy it anyway. Buying that watch and the mixup appears to have worked in my favour as I had also expressed interest in the Hulk when I first spoke with them, and I got the call a few days ago saying that they have just had one come in and it's been put aside for me. A few hours later I've had the links adjusted and left the shop a very happy man! The only downside is that I will have to sell a non date Sub off to cover the cost of the Hulk, but that green is something else!! They also let me try on a £82,000 Patek Phillipe, if all the stars in the universe line up for me just right, then I know what I want for when I turn 50 now ha! My watch wishlist now consists of a Longines moonface watch and a white faced ceramic Daytona. Think I'm all set after that. Not got a picture of all of them together as the non date's are now stored away in a safety deposit box, but some have been attached. |

Thank you for the warm welcome. One of my photos failed to load and I can see it was the one with the Hulk in place of the non date. I’ll upload it later this evening once I’m home again.
And sadly that Patek is still waaaaay out of reach even if I sold them all. I do agree that you don’t need a lot of watches but variety is nice aswell. One day :) Really was an expensive year but now I have some to sell and hopefully get some funds back :). I’ve been very lucky with how things have worked out for me. |

Congratulations, at least we now know why there is a shortage of SS sports models in the UK...... You have been snapping them all up.

Nice story and they are all beautiful timepieces. BTW, I must ask, how many price increases actually happened in the time you got all those Rolex's? If there were some, were they substantial enough to say, gee, I got a great deal?

None of the watches have been purchased after a price rise in 2017. And I haven’t got an amazing deal just paid RRP but I think buying the watches that I have, enabled me to get the Hulk in such a short amount of time. A person on a forum said you get watches by buying watches and it’s kinda true.
If you really want a watch and are willing to put some work in, you will get them. I called about 12 AD’s within 90 minutes of my house and was on lists waiting for watches. I’ve also built a reasonably strong relationship to Pragnells IMO and they are the first AD that I have come across who will actually place me onto their Daytona lists. Helps that they are opening a new store soon as well :D. The watch winder was brought off Amazon I think. Cost about £90. I wish it didn’t have a massive plaque on the front of it. Will have a look to see the model :) |
