First time buying Rolex: Vintage Rolex 6605 Oyster Perpetual Datejust two tone

This is my first time buying a Rolex. I'm currently looking at a Vintage Rolex 6605 Oyster Perpetual Datejust two tone. What is a fair price for a watch like this?

Regards

Private seller or online retail?

OP is searching eBay. All of the watches he has posted so far are auctions on there.
OP, most of the vintage watches on eBay are overpriced due to heavy fees.

Purchasing online. What's a fair price for this? It's my first Rolex and don't want to over pay. I almost paid double the price for something that wasn't even as listed.

Yes it's online. Looking to buy my first Rolex. I recently almost purchased a 6605 for double its worth. The description was also misleading and false. What is a far this piece? Thank you.

This dial has also been refinished. You need to do some more research, I think, to tell what is an original dial. Collectors tend to avoid redials, and they are hard to sell down the line.

You’re getting closer – but be careful with the white dials, as from that era they are usually pretty much trashed with age, or re-dialled – start looking at the black ones

Parts for the old movements are also hard to find, and generally require the services of a “vintage specialist”. When you see the description “fully over hauled and inspected” this usually means “the guy in the back said it is ticking, so it’s fine”. A full movement service on these is going to come in at around 500 bucks – and that’s “if” they can find the parts – so generally they don’t bother

A vintage Rolex in decent condition doesn’t come cheap – a rubbish condition one will – so the price will tell you a lot about the watch

The more you research the watch you want, the more you’ll learn about it, so decide on what you want, and find the most expensive example out there. Using the expensive one as your reference point, back track into examples in your price range, and compare the two

Half the fun is in the hunt, so take your time – don’t rush into making a mistake thinking you’ve got a bargain

For your first vintage you may have to accept paying more for the peace of mind of getting something authentic. It takes a seasoned pro to pick up a vintage bargain these days.

I’d suggest you start with HQMilton or similar for your first vintage.

Yes. Thinking the same. Will have to bring at least 4k to the table for something good. I appreciate all the help and replies.

HQ Milton has a nice ref. 9083 "flying saucer" manual wind model with integrated bracelet, for a pretty good price (these were going for a lot more a few years ago).
