is shaving top layer off discoloured tritium markers a thing?

So as per the title guys, if you have a watch which typically seems to have applied tritium markers which look generally as if they were painted on and so have a raised "blob" look to them and then you see a watch where the markers are flatter, is it possible/likely that someone has shaved/sanded/skimmed the top layer of the marker off to remove discolourations?

Is this a trick to look out for or is it generally almost impossible to do that without the whole blob of tritium coming off? I have no idea what is possible and what the signs/giveaways are.

Thanks very much for any insights.

I suspect you’re seeing different tritium formulations and application techniques.

Are you referring to washed off plots? When the raised lume on older dials"explode"
or decay and crumble, some folks will wash the dial to remove the destroyed plots.
This leaves a dial with "flat" plots. Hope the info helps.

"Next we inspect the luminous up close on the dial, we notice that the top layer of the luminous dots have lost their rounded structure. Actually the top have been scratched of to remove the stains that where there initially. As the lume is the moisture meter we’ve learned, in this case the moisture has entered the inside and got sucked up by the luminous making it turn brownish black in due time. Many watch makers in the past almost automatically removed the top layer of the lume making them look like craters"
