Submariner date or no date, gmt batman

Deciding between these 3 for my first rolex. The no date looks cleanest but it makes no sense for me to buy a no date watch when I know I use my current watch to check the date at least 10x a day. Between the other 2 I am surprised the gmt list price only 400 more despite having the additional complication and all I note that the sub is superior in is depth for waterproof to 300m vs 100m. Am I missing anything? Thx

Submariner Date would be ideal...it won’t be your last Rolex. The No Date Sub is my first rolex...And I kinda wish I had the date feature.

The Sub also has the glidelock clasp, but they are very similar as you’ve observed. Go with the one that grabs you the most. For me, it was the BLNR. But once I had that on my wrist, it was not long before I added the Sub LVc. It’s a dangerous hobby we have here. ;-)

Get the BLNR as your first rolex. It is sporty, and dressy at the same time.

subC date next

SubC no date only after you have a few dates in your collection.

Another vote for the BLNR here. Very similar in design to the Sub Date but with the very useful GMT complication and beautiful black/blue bezel. The PCLs give it a dressier look and it also has a trip lock crown like the Sub so even though it has a third of the rating, you can swim with complete piece of mind. Only go for the Sub if you're going to freak out about scratches on the center links and clasp. No matter how careful you are, they're really unavoidable. You really cannot go wrong with either watch. The ND I would only buy as a third or fourth watch, not as your first. Having the date is really a must for me. I actually miss not having the day as well whenever I'm not wearing the Day Date but obviously it's not as essentially as the date.

Submariner date or no date, gmt batman

I had the SubC Date first, then found myself getting the BLNR. I find it hard to wear the BLNR if I’m not actually traveling (which I do quite a bit), when the SubC Date is a more versatile watch for casual wear. So the BLNR sits in a winder till I’m changing time zones!

Tough one really and I’ll save you the trouble, you will not rest till you own both! So whichever you go with first doesn’t matter.

PS. No Date is only OK if it’s a chrono (i.e. Daytona or Speedy) IMHO, so Date is the way to go for me.

I'd pick up a SubC date as a first. I'm more partial to divers and prefer the look of brushed centre links and the bezel.

Good luck, no wrong decision here

The GMT. You won't believe how handy the time zone can be. I'm constantly adjusting before I call folks in EU and APAC to make sure it's a decent hour.

I got blnr first and don’t necessarily regret it but I feel the sub is a better first watch. Don’t even consider the no date if you check it a lot. I thought I would be ok without the dare but do find myself checking for it once in a while.

Have you tried them all on? I went with the BLNR, then purchased a Sub (no date) once I had the funds saved up. I love them both. I have a phone to check if I need to know the date when I'm wearing the Sub. It comes up to which one speaks to you. Go play with them at an AD and see if that doesn't help make the decision easier for you. Good luck, they are all addictive!

Brush the bracelet? Also new twist my wife read my mind (without my consent as usual) and told me I want a panerai even though she prefers rolex. I think she is totally wrong.

I'm a lover and owner of a GMT but I will go against the majority and recommend the 114060. That is Rolex boiled down to nothing but the essential. Rolex's most iconic watch. If I wasn't a pilot that would have been my first.

Submariner date or no date, gmt batman

I would go Subc Date first and then add the BLNR. Stick around here too long and you will have both. The Sub is iconic and pure class, great watch to start and anchor any collection. The BLNR is stunning, a bit dressier and tad more bling with the polished PCLs.

You will eventually end up with both. I didn’t think I would and I have.. I went BLNR first as that was the first one I got called up on.

BLNR! I too love the way no date looks and want to pick it up but too similar to my BLNR so leaning towards LVc.

BLNR wears lower on the wrist and has slightly narrower lugs. Easylink clasp is shorter on the outside than Glidelock. Bezel has less clicks and moves in either direction which means it's easier to use for quick timing jobs and easier to reset. I love all these features myself so BLNR is a favourite. BUT ..every collection has to have a SUB!
Both is therefore the best answer so it's just a question of "which first?"

Would it be crazy to get the pure black ss gmt instead of batman?

I believe you've made your case very clearly for a watch with date. I would start with the sub unless you have need of the travel function of the GMT.

I have had several subs and the BLNR. If I could have only one SS Rolex it would be the BLNR all day everyday - the best looking SS Rolex in the whole Rolex line up IMO

Given your lust for a SubC Date I would say yes, cause then they are too similar. Unless you opt for the SubC LV.

I only say this cause I know you will end up with both, it’s a matter of time. So my advice is as follows:

If you had money to buy both now, which combo will it be?
- SubC Date & BLNR?
- GMT II LN & HULK?
- etc...

Whichever combo you enjoy, stick to it and work toward it even if it takes you longer, cause flipping later is going to ding your wallet.

For me, a SubC Date is a classic and timeless piece and must be in black! The GMT II is inherently a must as a two tone bezel, and what better than the black for night and blue for day?
