I boxed professionally, so I have a bit of expertise in this subject. Joshua is slow, even for a heavyweight. He's become too much of a weightlifter, his punchers are pushed, not snappy. It's going to make it hard for him to knock out any decent fighters going forward. He's become too bulky, and can't protect himself up the middle. His defense has accordingly worsened.

He's been in against very, very bad fighters and not looked great against them. The stoppage against Takam was absurd, and that was a guy who's a club fighter. Wilder knocks those guys out in the first round. Joshua lets them get to deep water with him. Wlad almost beat Joshua as a very slow, very old man. Wilder's jab will eat Joshua alive.

As I said, happy to take any and all action on this fight when it's made. I realize England is happy to have a heavyweight champion again, but do a retrospective on how good and underappreciated Lewis was instead of setting yourself up for heartbreak with Joshua.

My wife always does her March madness brackets based on which uniforms she likes best, and beats me every year. I played college basketball myself. Just saying

He has allowed himself to get a bit big I'll give you that but I don't agree with your portrayal of him. I think you are underappreciating him and Wlad might have been old but he was still in shape and he was never fast while still being undisputed for many years. Forget Takam, AJ didn't train properly for that and thought lazily that he'd knock him out in three, so he actually did well to show he had a plan b and some stamina.

Lewis was a very good boxer but I can't forget how after getting knocked out by McCall he used to run away from opponents like a terrified chicken, so at this stage in their careers I am on AJ's side. We'll see how he fares, but he is still young and other temptations will get in his way so he's not by any means the finished article, but he could be in time.

Sure it is nice us having Heavyweight Champs again, but I don't believe you've had a great Heavy since even before Lewis so I'd say you are the one more hoping and praying.

Not the only way, Chris Eubank was the most arrogant over-conceited boxer of all time, made Ali look like Frazier. AJ is what he is, he's not putting on any great act... yet.

I assume you have some ring experience to compare Lewis' style to that of a terrified chicken?

At any rate, even granting AJ took Takam lightly, that's not to his credit, and he didn't come close to knocking him out in rounds 1-3 or after, which again does not speak highly of his power or accuracy.

As I said, when the fight is made, I'm happy to wager whatever you like on Wilder.

As for our respective country's history of heavyweight champions, well, happy to make that comparison too!

The very mild and TRF-ey trash talk we are doing is actually making me more excited to see the fight. I don't know much about Wilder I confess, but I'm looking forward to the fight more now that he seems to be a worthy contender.

The Lewis chicken era was when he was still Canadian, once he had gotten over McCall and become properly British he could stand toe to toe with any ear biter.

Wilder is a dangerous fighter mate, 39 fights, 39 wins, 38 KOs. The guy has the worst promotion team ever behind him. He is very athletic for a tall guy as well, fast and powerful.

He sounds good so I was wondering why he never fought Wlad and then I read this from Johnny Nelson.

“Let me tell you this. Wilder had sparred with Wladimir Klitschko on various occasions. Wladimir Klitschko knocked him out cold twice and put him down a third time with a body shot. This is the worst kept secret going. Wilder sees what Anthony Joshua did to Klitschko and he thinks, ‘Wow’.

Oh, no clue, really - I'm never good at predicteing what the odds will be, but I think I'm like 20-1 betting on boxing in the last 3 years. Hell, I even predicted what round Canelo would knock out Khan in. That was a nice bit of money.

The fight will get held up awhile just based on location. Wilder is right to be wary of fighting in England, but Joshua is correct that it'll do a much better business there - larger arenas and more PPV buys.

Here's a tip for betting these type of fights - if you're going to bet Wilder, lay it with an English outfit, if Joshua, bet a US sportsbook. I got great odds taking Mayweather over McGregor by having a friend place the wager in Dublin for me.
