Anyone looking for a TT Sky Dweller

I actually don't mind the selling part, I'm prob an outlier in that.

Watch is at the AD, getting shipped tomorrow, debating putting it up here now (without pictures) or waiting until I actually have it.

I'm guessing that your new preferred AD is out of state, so you aren't paying sales tax, which makes it possible to sell these things without losing your shirt.

Honestly, I've had the same thoughts, but the hassle doesn't really seem worth the effort to me. But I'm lazy. :)

So consumed with sales tax.... Paying sales tax is a privilege!

The short supply is going to lead to more and more AD "deals" whereby you buy this and they can get you that. I was out with a friend of mine who is also a dealer and he was engaging in this type of conversation about a few hard to get pieces and it's not an area I want to go down. I'll be a wheeler dealer on the markets, this is my hobby.

If I wanted a Daytona that bad, I would just pay a premium for it. I wouldn't put myself through the trouble of buying pieces that I don't want to "hopefully" get one in 12-18 months.

Flipping stuff gets old. Especially in the luxury watch community where it takes a reputation to sell a watch.

I'm not saying you are not a trustworthy person, but I think you will have a hard time trying to sell without any given trade history.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

While I agree with the bold, if someone is easily verified and has something BNIB from an AD, I think there is less room for interpretation from the buyer. If someone is representing BNIB from an AD stamped yesterday, there is no grey area, it is either what you say it is or not, and pretty easy for the buyer to figure that out.

If I was trying to sell pre-owned pieces that had no paperwork or history, I agree it would be much much more difficult.

Thanks a lot!!

I'm fully versed on eBay & Paypal's policies and pretty up to date on most scammers schemes. For a $17k watch, it's not much for me to ask and verify the buyer's identity before proceeding and avoid sketchy individuals. I have the funds, so it isn't like I'm buying it and sweating to have it sold ASAP - if something doesn't feel right, I'll wait for the next buyer.

Being in NYC also gives me an advantage as there is a larger market here and hopefully a F2F can be accomplished. I sold a watch on this forum almost 2 years to the date at the same place I had it serviced:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=442566

Hopefully can accomplish this. Prob only looking for F2F with cashier's check or wire anyways.

So at the end of the day we're split fairly evenly in here:

Half idiot / half not idiot

Glad I got that settled

Thanks for all the advice!

Good luck to you!
I wonder if this TT Sky-D will be enough to give you the short wait status. I hope that dealer doesn't ask you to buy some hard to move watches next.

If he wants to keep bringing me Hulks/Batmans/Dwellers - I'll happily hook this board up near cost - they also asked me to take a SubC, which I said I'd take as well, but wanted 10% off the Sub, they didn't oblige, so I passed on the that.

I'm not so sure I'd deal with all the aggravation, just for a chance to get a DaytonaC. Put frankly, reselling as an individual is a giant PITA. Lots of e-mails, people lowballing, scammers, having to ship and worry about its safe arrival, risk of being robbed at an in-person meetup etc. I think it's also important to recognize that you're not going to get what TS' have their watches listed at - keeping in mind some bargaining does happen behind the scenes. I applaud you if you have the determination to do this, but it seems like a lot of extra work to have the chance at not paying a premium for a Daytona.

I'm also surprised the AD wouldn't have others who say, buy hard to move or PM pieces from them, and reward them with Daytonas, instead of only selling to a client who has every intention of flipping the pieces to others.

More specifically, I do think buying a TT Skydweller with the hopes of flipping it is not a great idea. My AD has had one in their case for a few weeks, unsold. From some Sales Corner listings, they're also not flying off the shelves like the SS ones. The longer you hold it trying to get the maximum price for it, it probably will continue to fall in value, in line with other TT models.

I think its worthwhile to establish the relationship given some of the past offerings.

OP, is the dealer's reputation beyond any doubts?
Are you sure you are dealing with the entity you think you are dealing with (if this is not in person).

I am a bit concerned with them offering you timepiaces that are easy to move. I do not understand the logic. They could easily sell those themselves.

All valid concerns, I'm not looking to profit here. Pretty confident I can get around MSRP on it. I've been to a ton of tristate ADs recently, haven't seen one of these around.

Read this: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=9423

I'm far from an expert on these things, but I think you are supposed to have the watch and include pictures before you can place an ad in the TRF classifieds. Although I'm sure any interested party that reads this thread will PM you.

Good luck

I decided to just wait anyways. Just sounds weird to put in an ad, better to just have possession.

Oh, I've gotten PMs already lol. This thread was for advice though, if it was disguised as an ad, the title would've been different and the I'd mention the model number.

I was really looking for feedback and most of it was on par with my thoughts already, just crossing T's and dotting I's.

Great community!

I personally would have passed. Time and aggravation is worth/value to me as well and would likely out weigh paying premium of Daytona

If you do decide to sell the SkyDweller, don't forget the essentials for an ad here.

DSLR camera with macro lens
Tripod
Mahogany top table or marble top table
White gloves - gotta have white gloves.

I was just going to take them while I sat on the toilet.
