Advice - Dented gmt II case

Just got my watch back from a well respected repair shop and there is a dent in the case that I have never noticed before. I'm pretty observant and know just about every scratch on my watch and truly believe that I would have noticed something like this before. Especially a dent in the case like this, I can only imagine would take a pretty hard hit to yield this kind of result.

I wanted to share this with the group to see if anyone went through a similar experience or if anyone has some general advice for me and how to go about approaching the jeweller and what the best course of action would be.

Thanks in advance!

It's possible that the shop did it..

It is also possible that you did it and the blemish only became noticeable after the rest of the case was buffed up.

I don’t suppose the OP took pictures before sending the watch. I did that prior to sending mine to the Dallas RSC.

If you're 100% confident they did it, you need to contact ASAP.

Years ago, before I knew better I purchased a brand new submariner from Touneau (no discount, no nothing) they took it in the back to size it and gave it back to me with a big deep scratch on the caseback. At first the sales person said "well polish it out", but when I asked to speak to the manager he said " no way we can polish that out, it's to deep"! They gave me a new one, but the point is
a) how the heck did they do that and
b) what if I didn't notice until I got home? There's no way they would have given me a new one.
Call them asap

After seeing a few issues like this on here, if I ever take my watch in I will take a full hd video all around it, in store, with witness, before I let it go. 30 second close up video could solve a lot of issues.

I took my GMT to NY RSC at the start of the year and got it back with scratches on the case. They fixed it but lesson learned and next time I'll take detailed pictures before I let anyone handle my watches

Not a watch, but rental car related. A couple of dozen photos and one minute of effort at pick up, saved me $’000 in excess, for a dent the rental agency claimed was mine. HD photos or video prior to passing your pride and joy to someone else is just good practice.

I guess lesson learned the hard way. I will always make sure to have high quality pictures before i givemy watch to anyone.
I reached out to the jeweller and they claimed there is no way they did it and if they did they would have fixed it. They still sugested i come in and let them look at it to see what can be done. I did find a picture from two weeks ago showing no damage to the watch that I will show them as well. attached are picturs of the damage. How hard would you have to hit the watch to get a dent like that even?

I take pictures, but this is even better. Thanks for the suggestion. Sometimes the simplest things (like taking a 30 second video) never enter our minds.

Hope they accept and fix the problem for you.

The dent looks like it should have happened with bracelet off and watch dropped.

I certainly wouldn’t trust the AD, that’s for sure. I’d probably send it to LA WatchWorks or Rik Dietel in Florida... someone who really knows what they’re doing with case repair. If you can get the AD to foot the bill, great. But at this point I’d be more concerned with the fate of the watch than whatever it costs to repair it properly.

I agree it appears to have been dropped with the band off. If they were that careless with it at the shop I would also be concerned about any internal work they did on it. You might consider having it checked on a timing machine too. Personally I would not let anyone try to repair the damage but a RSC.

You pay more for RSC service vs an independent watchmaker or AD, but you have more recourse if something is borked during the process.

defiantly looks that way to me as well , so the first thing they do is remove the bracelet and the lug damage looks in line with a sweet spot drop from bench height

Yes, that is one heck of a dent. I would be livid.

My experience is that before the AD sends my watch to Rolex for service, on both occasions they reviewed the condition of the watch with me, in my presence, and any “blemishes” noted on the accompanying claim receipt I received. I think this is a best practice.

I just took my TAG into Jareds to be sent back to Tag as the crown is cracked. I bought it in 1999.They looked the watch over and wrote down information regarding the condition of the watch. My brother in law hs sent his kermit sub to rsc via mayors. When he went to pick it up, the bezel had a dent. Back to rsc it went and it was replaced free of charge.

I am in agreement with the concensus that your watch was dropped with the bracelet off.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Here is the picture if from a few weeks ago. I had to zoom in so it is a bit grainy but you can see that it is perfectly straight hence no dent.
