I doubt that Rolex has anything to do with your local billboards. It is one of the few ways that your local Jeweler can advertise that they sell them.

Exactly my thoughts...only billboards I've ever seen with Rolex on them are ADs saying "come to our shop, we sell Rolex."

My understanding is that Rolex helps pay for these billboard ads

Brands that advertise are failing.... interesting. Seems Invicta is doing great for itself then.

I think Rolex could survive just fine with sales only from members of TRF!

No. Advertising is the foundation upon which Rolex has stayed out of trouble and will continue to do so.

I drove across the bridge from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island last year and there were literally 100's of huge billboards advertising ROLEX on both sides of the bridge while approaching the toll booth. It was quite enjoyable for me. Rolex is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Advertisements do not correlate to a decline in sales

There is no bridge connecting Kowloon to Hong Kong Island.

You're right. It was the Cross Harbour Tunnel if my memory serves me correct.

Right. "Literally hundreds" sounds like a lot of ads, though.

But they are everywhere here. And Tudor.

There are a couple of tunnels that connect the two sides of the harbour. The Western tunnel typically has a phalanx of advertising for a single company in the lead up to it - a couple of weeks back it was AP...but this week it’s Breitling...so I’m not sure that’s a perfect indicator of brand health.

There was one I'm familiar with on the North Shore here advertising for Long's Jeweler's one of the local ADs. I'm afraid you're right; Rolex is doomed.

I never think of advertisements as a sign of distressed company or a company in trouble.

They'd be flying if they increased production of the sports models!

You're confusing Rolex with DavidSW.

Only time I see advertisements for Rolex is when I get catalogues from AMEX's Departure Magazine, and near high end shopping areas near casinos and expensive neighborhood shopping areas.

I think if Rolex keeps cutting supplies of SS sports models. She will be!

Advertising is good for business. Economy is good now so more people can buy rolexes, but in order to get people to buy the company has to raise awareness.

Considering all the hoops people are willing to jump through in order to acquire many popular references I would say the brand is doing just fine.

Agreed.

I can’t imagine what it costs to be the official timekeeper of Formula One. Their logo is plastered all around each track for every race. I kind of enjoy looking down at my wrist when I notice the advertising.

I am willing to drop $9000 for a hulk but cannot find any at this price. Rolex is very desirable.
