Hacking?

I’ve seen a few threads that have mentioned “hacking” what does this mean? I’ve only found that it refers to when the second hand stops when the crown is pulled out. Is there some use for this feature? I searched around some, feel free to point me to an article or thread! Thanks

It is a term used to describe unscrewing of the crown and pulling the crown out to the set position which stops the movement for precise setting of the time.

One use that i find useful is calculating how many seconds a day my watches gain or lose. So i set it to start at exactly e.g. 00 seconds with reference to an online source like timeanddate and make my calculation.

Its really a Military term used to synchronize armed forces watches when on a mission so all there watches in that mission team would have the same time.Pulling the winding crown out to its time-setting position, causing the hacking lever to stop the balance wheel and gear train of the watch thus stopping the second hand .

I always thought it was referring to changing the code on an Apple watch to make it gain or lose 6 seconds a day.
