 My first Rolex was a 36mm Explorer. I sold it becasue it was just too small...seeing this makes me want to buy the 39mm Explorer.

Excellent picture - who is profiled in the book?
I love my Explorer but its a model many have eschewed for the trendier models. Not me... However, famous explorers seem to have seldom worn the Explorer. In many cases that was due to the fact their quests pre-dated the famed Rolex model. Some because other models or marques made more sense... Is that Amundsen on the cover? He took this to the South Pole...  Great set of pictures from an exhibit in the UK a few years back - take a look... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-14886170 Of course wrist watches were not around, much less Explorer model. Another case... A warmer clime beckoned Heyerdahl to cross much of the Pacific on a raft in 1947. But Thor wore Eterna on his epic exploration. And they named a watch after his raft the Kon Tiki it too  Later, Rolex ran ads when Heyerdahl tackled the Atlantic on Ra II. But he wore a Sub and the Navigator wore GMT. Subfiend on TRF is an old friend of Norm Baker, who was Thor Heyerdahl's navigator.  I love the model but still don't know who wore one on their quest... even it's namesake quest - the ascent of Everest - was tackled by Hillary wearing an OP.
