IKR? LOL, agreed.

Have been thinking of getting a GS for a year or so, yet for $600 the Alpinist blue seemed like a 'freebie' giveaway(!). Heck, can't even get a few Rolex gold links or a Patek leather strap or two for the price of the Seiko. Wear it on SS bracelet with solid end links (+$89) and she looks great!

I don’t know about Omega “laughing” at Rolex, they have been lack luster for years.

But AP Is breathing a sigh of relief after their SIHH disaster !

I wouldn't say they are laughing at Rolex but I love my 2018 SMPc. It gives my SubC and BLNR a run for their money when it comes to wrist time.

Regardless of what Omega comes up with, it's not going to change the fact that people are willing to pay a high premium for a typical Rolex SS and any almost any given Omega can be had at a hefty discount. If the limited edition gold speedy is any indication, it's more likely that Rolex will move ahead even if this year's models are considered a pass. Rather than comparing Rolex to Omega, perhaps it should be Omega vs Tudor.

Omega is junk. Wouldn't wear the brand. Just my 2 cents.

You can be sure that Omega is beyond pleased right now.

This Basel Rolex sucks, however I still don't have any interest to find out what and when Omega is going to release.

AP and PP are the only other brands I will follow

Great another new LE from Omega.

Great another re-issue from Omega.

How revolutionary and exciting. Said no one ever.

...

My first few watches were Omega. Still love the brand but based on what they’ve released in the modern era they have done more than replicating the continual out of the Tudor BB line. People going crazy over the “new” gold speedy... really? It’s just the same watch from decades ago... it’s going to be as popular as the 57 series that was exciting at first and now just another reissue and LE.

Omega is Omega

This could be a very good thing for a brand like Grand Seiko, however

This.

But Omega are really annoying me with all their LEs. Come on... ST1, ST2, Hodinkee, Bond, Railmaster/Seamaster/Speedmaster Reissue, New York BTQ, Paris BTQ,...

I'm not a Rolex fan boy but a watch lover yet Omega is just crapping LE by the ton. At least Rolex is not trying to cover up the fact that they are making the same watches for years by making small iterations that make them very "special" and "unique".

A Snoopy Speedmaster is imho truly special. Because of its looks and as it was before they started their mambojumbo marketing.

Omega makes some cool stuff but they aren’t even competitive with Rolex on the grand scheme.

Yikes.

Some real Rolex kool aid drinkers in here.

Don't agree with the thread title though. Omega gold whatever limited edition is better than anything Rolex showed at Basel this year, but I guess every year can't be a hit. I'm honestly a little shocked by the watches Rolex showed for Basel 2019.

If they make an exact reproduction of the moon watch with the 321 I’ll be all over it.

I own both brands. My Ceramic Daytona and Oyster Perpetual are my two newest watches. I also own some LE Speedmasters. Love them all.

Curious if anyone else thinks that with Rolex availability of certain models, or lack thereof, brands like Omega and other are benefiting because they're making some good watches that in a lot of cases are available. I think this could well be the case.

The YM 42mm looks so much like the new ceramic/titanium Seamaster 300M... Omega wins on this one...

Omega is holding their dealer meetings right now in Zurich--no pics allowed as far as I know.

I think everyone is breathing easy after the Rolex-Tudor releases. It's kinda like it didn't happen. ADs will get a few nice GMTs to sell, and the DJ36 will be a nice watch that they should sell a ton of. But as far as excitement for the brand, pretty much nada.

Tudor totally dropped the ball. I was ready to buy a new Tudor, based on recent releases. Haha.

Omega has an opportunity to build some excitement here--but we'll see. The new Speedmaster coming is a two-tone for $9500 or so... It might look sharp. We'll see.

Otherwise, I think Breitling and IWC came out with some interesting stuff this year.

Omega makes a nice watch, but they aren't even close to Rolex. They put out way too many "limited editions" that if they are any good the average Omega fan can't get and if they are meh the dealers can't give away.

Don't mean to rain on your parade but to compare Omega to Rolex is like comparing Volkswagen to Porsche; the two are not even in the same league.

Right because Rolex models that people want are so accessible? At least you can walk into an AD or OB and actually get a desirable model and walk out the door with it THAT DAY. Rolex may be the more coveted brand-name but most people (not us) wanting a timepiece don't want to wait years to put something on their wrist. Swatch, Richemont and others are no doubt taking the customers that Rolex refuses to service. That's a fact.
