I'm scared of buying a Deep Sea.

I'm looking to buy a Deep Sea from the forums and or Grey Market.

However, I watched a YouTube video comparing a replica and an authentic Deep Sea, and they are 1:1 identical. There is no difference in the watch exteriors.

Besides buying it from an authorized dealer, how would I know I am buying an authentic Deep Sea?

Go to one of the Trusted Sellers here on TRF and read the reviews. No issues and the watch will be to you by 1030 a.m. the day after you pay.

IMO this is the only way besides AD I purchase. I am no expert so I would be easily fooled as I am sure most would too, even though they wouldn't admit it.

The known trusted sellers buy their watches from AD's, 100% safe to buy from any of them. Nothing to worry.

If you don't trust them than the only way is via an AD

Buy using pay pal and AMX . Do not wire funds! You can the
N take piece to AD to have them look at it. I have bought many very expensive pieces on EBay this way. Had on from who tried to steal 20 grand but he got not a dime!Even w a trusted seller there can be problems or miss understandings- if they have your money , you are at their mercy! At least w them use AMX . If they cry about the Ricoh they they have to pAy ( they will ) eitheroffer to pAy a little more or don’t buy. You MUST protect yourself

James272 is talking sense. With “trusted sellers” there is no legal recourse if a problem develops. At least with a credit card or PayPal you can contest a charge if a problem arises.

Your first watch should be bought from a local reputable brick and mortar store that accepts returns. You are not ready for TRF trusted sellers, sorry, that still takes experience. You may pay a little more, but that is the way to go for a newbie IMO.

there is always legal recourse. a TS has a business and you could sue them as fraud is fraud. Wiring money to some random scammer is another thing.

If you wire funds to a TS and they scam you, they have an established business and a paper trail so you can find them. you cant compare apples and oranges

I don't consider it cost effective to sue someone for under $10k. Even if you sue and win against a brick and mortar business, you may not collect. Then there could be appeals and other delays. At least on eBay and/or with a credit card Paypal you have a free, in-house remedy available.

the point is if you know who someone is, they are not going to jeopardize their business that way. The reason they are trusted is they do it all day every day for years and years. The fly by night randoms dont care

Who you are paying is far more important than the method of payment

The most important thing is the watch itself. I'd rather rely on a guaranteed method of resolving any potential problems (usually in the buyer's favor) than depending on someone's "reputation." This method has worked flawlessly for me.
