I like them but they are heavy (the aluminum ones).

The quality is one of the most solid in the market, but they only open from the middle - which makes it inconvenient in flight if you just want to quickly grab a sweatshirt or anything from your luggage. If the suitcase opens from the top (Samsonite style) you don't need to take it out of the luggage compartment. Just need to unzip the top, grab whatever you need, and close the luggage bin. With Rimowa case you can't,. You need to take it out of the compartment, open it completely, search your stuff in one inner zipped compartment or the other, close the whole thing, put it back.

Weather you fly economy or business it's the same issue.

Tumi released a great design solution for such hard luggage which opens both from the top and from the middle. But the problem of Tumi luggage case is the heavy weight (particularly concerning if travelling in Asia/China where they are quite strict on the kg limit)

I'm waiting for Rimowa to update their design. Before that I stay away.

Rimowa is the best. Yes have 4 of them. Just ordered one more for our little girl. Figured she'll have a cool bag accompany her all her life. (Aluminum version of course)

For carry on they are cool, but heard too many stories of hold luggage getting damaged & bent to the extent it can’t close properly. Aluminium just isn’t the best possible material for domestic luggage in my view.

Yes it will get the living hell beat out of it and quite honestly, I should have never bought all of that check luggage because of that and on top of that, I have refused to use any of it for that reason. I do use all my carry ons as does my wife..

Mine has been around the globe a few times, has the scars to prove it. If it bends, you can always beat it back into submission.

I’ve had one for about 10 years. Probably done 1 million miles of travel with it. It’s no longer my go to carry on. It’s been in the attic, I got a bit tired of its appearance with all the dings and dents. It’s got too much character for me LOL.

I'll take a picture of mine later if you want to see dings. It's had a few broken rivets, which I've replaced myself. Once it got a pretty bad ding on its short side, but hey, what did I say about metal? -You can always beat it back into submission.

Would be good to see one that’s had some tough usage !

This is the problem with so many airlines nagging about the weight of the carry ons, alternative are the plastic ones but not really

Here's my two well-used aluminums. One is checked luggage, other carry-on.

Third one is brand new, so no point showing it, fourth is a plastic version.

Got to say, looks rather cool with all the stickers. You will never be the guy who needs to check the name tag at the baggage return.

I do not.

The new aluminum is bought for our kid. She's now 4 months. Didn't have it on her first trip last month to Portugal, but it will accompany her hopefully for the rest of her life. Daddy will put stickers on it every place we visit until she can do it herself. Although surprisingly many places we visit, we can never find stickers! I've even pulled some off walls and put them on my bag.

That’s a really nice thing to do for your baby girl.

We do the same with fridge magnets - nice mementos of trips and amazing to look back at over time.

We also do the fridge magnets. My wife "cleans" it occasionally though.

One thing's for sure, "Bella" will have a pretty awesome bag once it's time for the "language study trip" to Malta.

I really dig'em, but not expandable makes it a showstopper for me. I love that I have outside pockets on my Tumi, and I can access it from the front. Flexibility and purpose win every time for me.

you will fit right in with the keeping the stickers on and the plastic couch cover guys.

IMO thats the point of Rimowa. The more dents and scratches the more you have traveled. I always know the true globetrotters just by looking at the luggage. Its usually expensive luggage as its much better quality which is important when you use it all the time, but its also well worn.

I was not familiar with the brand before now.

I imagine they are not, but are they water proof?
