Pam111
Hi all, I have a PAM 111 R-series bought new in 2015 and while I still love how it looks, I admit I wear it less and less as it is more a “weekend” piece vs my other watches.
I have twice now considered selling it but have not done so bec a) I’m only getting about 60% of the original value I bought it for and b) it has some sentimental value (bought on the birth year of my son). I don’t really need the funds now but I also don’t like it just sitting in the drawer. So what would you guys do? Thanks for any thoughts. And here’s a pic of it with some flecto. Perhaps order some new leather straps to freshen things up a bit?

Agree with what others have said. Order some new straps and start wearing it again!

Wear what you want. Don't force it and I would not buy any straps and tie up any more money in a watch that you do not feel special about. If there is a watch you want then see what you can do on a trade. If not, sit tight. You are being optimistic about the value also. Welcome to the world of Panerai.

I would keep it especially if attached to the birth of your son (possible heirloom?). I agree with the three gentlemen above me - get some new straps. Do a search for Panerai straps, look in the forums, or see offerings on Etsy and spice up the watch with a new look. You may fall in love with it all over again.

Cheers guys. The strap idea is interesting - I do have a few Panerai ones (black calf skin, asso, ponte vecchio), as well as a bunch of Mario Pacis.
I did at one point consider a nice gator skin - that might give it a completely different look that I don't have now. Also poked around the Panerai site - didnt realise there are a lot of new rubber straps too (the one in the pic is extremely comfy). might be a good excuse to drop by the PAM boutique tomorrow then :) |

It's just a classic reference. I'd hold onto it and see how you feel later. There's plenty of watches I own that I go through periods where my interest just isn't there. Inevitably I come back around. I only justify selling something if it is worth the loss to get something you really, really want.
Since there is nothing you want and you don't really need the money, let it sit. You'll come back around and be glad you kept it. |

What I did too is gave the PAM a good clean (straps off and lukewarm water with a tiny drop of dishwash liquid), laid out all the straps I have and tried a few on til I settled on one of my Pacis. I can't say I was falling in love all over again, but it did feel "comforting" - you know like some ol' reliable college buddy so it's staying put for now. I did have fun with the straps - and really digging the blue Panerai rubber. I'll start another thread on that |

If you don't need a cash maybe considering keeping it.
Use other straps or as I did give it your family member who likes watches but can't afford one. Who knows , maybe it will become a trail watch to someone in your family. Cheers Sent from my SM-N935F using Tapatalk |

Good news...even if you paid full price for the PAM 111, there is no way that you would lose 40% on this retired sandwich dial base marina (which is one of the most popular PAMs) IF the watch is in mint condition. Put it for sale on a Paneristi site. If you bought the watch with any discount, offer it for sale at the discounted price you paid for it IF in mint condition. If you bought the watch at full retail, offer it for 85% of your purchase price IF in mint condition. Of condition is excellent (but not mint), take another 10% off these prices.
But unless the watch really isn’t in great condition, you should be able to do very well with a sale of this particular model if you put it for sale with the right audience, which isn’t TRF. Best of luck! |

If you plan to tell stories about it in the future, keep.
If not, sell. |

Thanks for the feedback all. It is in very good nick as it’s on rotation with other pieces I have and was bought new from the Panerai boutique in Ion mall here in Singapore.
Lots of good suggestions here and yeah, the one asking for a 40% discount was a grey so maybe if I sold direct I could do better. I like the idea too if giving it or selling it for a steal to fam - then I get to see it still too. So anyway guess it hangs around for a while. Thanks all! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
