You may be thinking of Gmts (like I was once). All Subs thru the 14060m came with the holes case until the SubC came out in 2012

Can this be stickied? I feel like this a perfect representation of all things Rolex, especially this forum. In all honesty, someone should send this into Rolex, it epitomizes everything people love about the brand.

I am very glad that you finally got the classical submariner that you really deserve. You have a very comprehensive and nice wife, by the way.

You have perfectly resumed the good spirit that a real enthusiast should have about this pure icon, so far from too common an non-interesting nowadays concerns about investments...

It reminds me my 5513 that I was really lucky to be offered by my parents some 42 years ago (we have the same age by the way). I dreamed for years watching the James Bond movies, reading again and again the advertisements, this before this great gift ...

By the way, I had to go to San Diego for my job, recognized the bridge close to the navy base.

About James Bond and Rolex, I remember having read a Novel from Yan Fleming (not sure of the original title, as it was in French "l'amour l'aprčs-midi" (loving in the after-noon). In that novel, Fleming described the fact that the watch of the man, a spy (James Bond of course) was a Rolex Oyster.

I share with you the love of the 4 or 5 digit shape of a submariner.

2 years ago I made another dream of my youth came true: a 16618 with blue dial.

Thank you again for your excellent post that remind a lot of us our dreams of a classical submariner, a really special Rolex with lot of personality.

Wear it in good health, for long!
Thank you, Jean-Michel, for your very kind words and story.

How wonderful to be gifted a 5513 from your parents and to have been able to enjoy it for so many years! Were I to get another Rolex, it would be a four digit Submariner.

Wow, you “graduated” to a 16618? Gorgeous watch!

Great to read your story, from another guy who simply loves the Submariner!

Thank you again for posting and God bless you and yours,

Michael

oh and finally, because my picture taking skills are awful I am stealing every picture in this thread.
Thanks, Dennis; yes, my wife is an amazing blessing in my life!

I’m glad you’re enjoying the photos (I’m humbled that you want them) and of course, you’re welcome to them! I’ll try to keep them coming!

Here’s another:

P.S. It’s common knowledge that watches are best photographed at 10:10 to best show off the dial. If you ever see my pics with the watch at 10:10, it truly is 10:10. I don’t set the hands for pics.

Like the above picture (and the one preceding it,) I was on a walk with my dog, noticed the time, and quickly hunted down a backdrop, trying to get that perfect pic!

Here’s another impromptu shot, while walking my dog, as it turned 10:10 once again!!! This time with the aged wood of a telephone pole for background. :)

Thank you for this thread. My 14060M is the first and only Submariner I've ever owned. I've owned my Submariner for around 5 years, but it got lost within my very large collection. Lately though, I have been really appreciating it, and spending more time with it than I ever have. It really is an amazing watch that has so many more layers that I originally thought.

Thank you for very high compliment, but honestly, my story is not unlike many others posted here and elsewhere on the internet. Just another tale of a man’s lifelong dream fulfilled of owning the most classic, iconic watch of all time!

Thanks for your service Michael. I love this thread. Such a great post. I love the Submariner. It’s the first Rolex I fell in love with but unfortunately it was not the first one I owned but I am happy I was able to eventually get one. Your story is so awesome.

Thank you, lastshotkid, but the honor is definitely all mine! I’ll never get over my incredulity at owning, and proudly wearing, this one watch! Every morning, upon waking, my thoughts eventually drift to the watch resting on my nightstand. Every time, I feel like a kid again on Christmas morning!!!

Thank you akordz and abelxo!

Here’s a recent pic, shot with my iPhone at the laundromat while washing our dog’s beds. I noticed it was 10:10 (perfect watch pic time!) and I’d been wanting a shot with a stainless steel background!
