My 2 Week Review of the Explorer2 42mm

Well I can hardly believe it’s been two weeks already but it is. So I have owned just about every Rolex model over the years. None of them is as comfortable to wear as this Explorer is. It’s easy to see and the low profile makes it feel almost weightless on the wrist. This is the only Rolex I own that does not try and Porpoise and move around my wrist. Maybe it’s larger size keeps it from spinning but whatever it is I love the way it wears. As far as accuracy it has gained only 3 seconds in a weeks time can’t beat that. I totally recommend this watch to first timers and to Rolex and the seasoned Rolex veteran like myself.

Nice review.

I tried it on a while ago and it felt to big for me. I have a bony 7" wirst with a wrist bone protruding and it did not sit well whereas the sd4k with a smaller diameter base which does protrude quite a bit more sat better in the pocket and around my wristbone better.

I know there is a large following for it, as it is a rugged and easy-to-read Rolex.

My everyday watch! I agree with all you’ve written. It’s super slim and the most comfortable watch I own!

Yes agreed its a very comfortable watch to wear due to the large hands and digits it is very easy to check the time in the dark, and yes its very accurate.

It’s the last true tool watch in the collection. Unlike the shiny bits and crockery and giant cases, the added size and larger hands increase legibility and thus function. This is what Rolex used to be, function first and foremost then form. Now, and sadly it’s the other way around.

Well said. The only issue I've ever had with the EXP2 over the years is figuring out which one I like better, the black or white.

So I've been reduced to owning and wearing both.

I prefer the 16570 for size.

I really got a kick out of this Ross great expression

I love this reference, and especially the black dial. I’ve never owned one, but I have tried them on and I found it to be very comfortable as well.

100% the most comfortable. Mine is arguably too big for my flat 7” wrist but the legibility and comfort keep it in my stable.

Love the Exp II as an everyday tool watch - 16570s are hard to beat, but I love the orange accents of this new version. Wish they made it in 40mm...

Congrats on the Explorer II Ross! It was the most comfortable watch I've ever owned until I got the Pepsi on the jubilee. But the same familiar pattern is starting to happen to my Pepsi. It got a lot of wrist time at first, then I reverted right back to wearing the Explorer II every day. I grabbed the Pepsi last night and the date was off by a week!

I don't know why I keep buying other watches. I think the answer might be to buy the polar Explorer II and collection complete. Such an amazing model. Glad you're enjoying it!

Congrats on your Expll! I bought a new Polar @18 mos. ago now and it never gets old. I agree with all the above positive comments and wouldn't mind at all to add the black (phantom) to the fold, it's that nice. Enjoy!!...

At first, I thought it was too large, but the sizing has grown on me tremendously. It's fantastic and really feels true to the Rolex brand.

Picked one of these up fairly soon after release a few years back. Loved the design and engineeering but could not get use to the width so I flipped it. Always kind of regretted not giving it longer though - maybe another some day?

Thank you! It's a toss up, really, as I rotate pretty regularly. But, overall, I would have to say the black has spent more time in the collection, as I've flipped around with the white more.

I agree with you OP, the current 42mm is the ideal size. The extra 2mm makes the watch more legible. The date cyclops does not overpower the dial and the hands suit the larger dial landscape. Rolex really got this right.
