Vintage Explorer II (ref: 1655) help needed
Complete vintage noob here, so would like your opinions on the following Explorer II.
In all of my 20 years or so of Luxury watch (mainly Rolex) ownership I have never considered going with a vintage piece up until now. Vintage watches for some reason become rather appealing to me. So I thought I would start with the watch that made me fall into love with Rolex sports watches and luxury watches in general. Currently looking @ the following watch, bust as mentioned I do not have clue of what I should be looking for in terms of authenticity etc. So what do you guys think? |

Is it this one? I think it looks great. Also seller has good feedback but don't take the transaction outside ebay and only pay with paypal to ensure you are fully protected. Looking forward to seeing pics of it on your wrist. http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...mtid=824&kw=lg

I would also say that if this one is the correct watch http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53...mtid=824&kw=lg then there are 48 people watching it, which means it could sell very quickly... any given moment.

Looks good from here. Appears to be a MKIV dial & MKIII bezel. The case back looks OK too, as I think the later ones were not stamped. OP: Just keep in mind there were several different dial & bezel variations with this reference over the years. Including the service dials, I think there were at least 7 versions of the dial, and at least 4 versions of the bezel! Some put a premium on the early MKI-MKIII "frog foot" dials, but the one you posted (MKIV) is my personal favorite. Also, seeing as there were more dial variations than bezel variations, it's perfectly normal/fine to see a watch like the one above where the "MK" numbers identifying the dial and bezel aren't the same. |
