SD for a PO 8500? Huh?

I know most would say don't do it, but ever since I saw the new PO in person I really want it.

Actually thought about giving up my SD for one. Crazy or not crazy?

no i wouldn't do it. SD is a classic. the 8500 is cheap in comparison very much within saving reach.

The PO is of greater quality than a SD 16600. The 16600 was designed over 25 years ago (well case and bracelet is from 16660, so almost 30 years old), so offcurse a new watch will be superior

However the SD is a watch which has "that something".
Keep it, and buy the PO when you have the funds.

If the SD is your only Rolex then the answer is no. If you have another Rolex, trade the SD in and have a ball. The new PO is great.

I've always considered the SD to be THE Rolex diver and it was my grail. I was blessed to locate this one LNIB:

and wore it with pride.

Then along came my Planet Ocean Liquidmetal LE and it won the wrist time war.

But would I have given up the SD for the new 8500 PO or even the standard PO? Probably not.

Of course, I would not give up my PO LM LE either.

The SD (16600) is a true classic, like the Speedy Pro . I'd suggest you keep the SD and add the 8500 as a companion.

All great input guys. Thanks for your opinions.

Tough call. I really want this new PO, but perhaps I should just wait and hold on to my SD.

That new PO is so awesome though!

Haha. Hardly in bad shape. Could use a new crystal, but a very nice watch.

You are clearly spot on. I think we can all agree that this has been

is nothing compared to one of these

I know I'd much rather ride in the new, modern, 'murican one than that dated Italian purebred, I'm sure you agree.

I love the SD and the PO, I like that you say the SD is analogous to a Ferrari Testarossa, but the PO to a riced out Mustang, that's a stretch

I only think you should wear what you want and I can clearly see that you really want a new PO ...though in my own opinion, keep the SD and add the PO when funds allow, but in any case, if you want the PO in place of the SD, please go ahead by all means..I know many people that sold SDs for many other replacements over the years :)
