For me, I never had a Seiko watch before, even when I was growing up. The closest that I got was an Alba watch, and at that time I wear my Alba watch proudly. But deep inside me, I always wanted a Seiko, but not just getting a Seiko for the sake of getting one. The Seiko that I would get must appeal to me first, pricing being secondary.

Finally, I'm happy to pull the trigger on both the Grand Seiko 253 and the SLA017. Love those two reissue models, both also fit my collection parameters, and most of all, finally was able to get the Seiko that is beauty to my eyes
Well Done Sir ! I'm glad you pulled the trigger. I made another call to the Seiko AD about an hour ago for fun and news of 2 units would be allotted to the boutique. The retail has not be confirmed but would be in the USD 3.2 K-ish range. The first has already been booked. Damn It! I hate competition! On the spur of the moment I simply said I'll take the second SLA 017 after he told me a small deposit of USD125 was required. I guess if I change my mind, forfeiting 125 bucks isnt so bad at all.
Hah ! At least I've beaten the other Malaysians to that last SLA 017

At the end of the day the price does not justify the watch I'm a huge Seiko fan but I have to say that this particular watch really is not worth that kind of money if it were me I would buy the similar looking Oris which sells for roughly 1,600

This watch is absolutely beautiful! I need to pay a visit to the Seiko Boutique tomorrow and see what they can do for me. There's a GS I wanted to check out anyway. Awesome watch!

Indeed you must see the SLA 017 in the flesh as I was told the watch not only has the GS calibre internally but the GM of the Seiko boutique who had Hands-On experience was taken aback with case finishing....

This watch is slightly expensive for what it is, but it's a really attractive normal sized LE - that's never going to be cheap.

IMHO, the best looking Seiko ever made. Huge fan. But the price is exorbitant and simply not justified, unless it's simply one of those "gotta have it" watches.

I didn't understand the price for this watch at first either, but the close-up photos in this thread have convinced me otherwise. What a great looking watch! I particularly like that domed crystal.

yep, the more I look at this watch, the more appealing it is at any price tag. Still out of my budget, but I don't think they'll have any problem selling all of them.

I just tried this on at the boutique, and I assure you it is stunning! I'm rethinking my plans for my next watch now. The dial is amazing, the case is perfectly sized and very well finished (in a utilitarian, not a pretty, kind of way). I definitely don't think it's overpriced.

I originally wanted to check out the GS Spring Drive Chrono, but that SLA017 is really stuck in my mind now.

Pics: my Snowflake, the SD Chrono, and the SLA017.

I'll be damned ! I've just received a surprising call from the GM of the Seiko boutique an hour ago informing me 3 units have just arrived from the distributer. SHUT UP ! GET OUT OF TOWN ! ARE YOU FRIGGIN' KIDDING ME ? You said Sept no ? Like WOW !
The boutique is 500km + from my working place so I told the GM I would collect the watch next month as I need to take a couple of days off and make the necessary travelling arrangements.

He posted some photos so here they are.I've already chosen my number but the some history buffs and watch nerds are really gonna get a kick if they knew one of the LE numbers
> first LE unit has a three digit number 8xx/2000
>The second LE is a four digit 13xx/2000

Now the third LE is a three digit combination but the significance of it lies in the fact that it is a date which will live in infamy, a date that changed life in America and reshaped World History !

Lemme guess - 704, 1207 or 9xx... :)

Congrats on your SLA017!
