(2012) 15202 Jumbo Date Problem

At first I thought I must've been careless in setting the date but when I noticed it happening for the third time in a month I knew that possibly something is wrong....

I find that sometimes the date fails to increment after the stroke of midnight. the hours and minutes are keeping time just fine, so it's possible that the date portion of the movement may be wayward.

watch is 2 months old and bought brand new from AP boutique in Kuala Lumpur. watch has been spending literally 95% of the time in a winder at 750tpd.

I shouldn't have a problem with bringing it in under warranty, but for the money and anticipation of owning my dream piece... this is most upsetting and I'm heart broken... :(

anyone other owners with similar issues?

There has been a lot of this lately. I hope you resolve your issue soon, should't have to deal with issues on a 2 month old watch.

Sorry to hear that, bring it to the boutique and please keep us update.
Anyway, did the watch stop before? Did you set the date in the correct way?

From Submarino's "Things to consider before buying pre-owned" thread...

"3. If you buy a 5402 be very careful with the crown and avoid using the quick-set calendar advance feature that comes with cal. 2121. (While the watch doesn't have a date setting crown position, you can quickly advance the date by going with the hands past midnight to around 1am or 2am and then back to 10pm to adjust the date without having to go around 24hrs for each day)."

Could it have something to do with this same issue? I know the OP's watch is new, but has the same movement.

I've never done date change that way or even during "9pm to 3am" like many ppl have advised....I'll bring the watch to the AP boutique when I travel back to Kuala Lumpur in a couple weeks time.

That sounds like a gear or date wheel issue.

I feel the same way you do, as my FC has just gone off to APSC for a similar issue, mine changed date at 1.15 am?
it is a little dissapointing that a watches of this calibre should suffer like this, i too am very pee'd off having owned the watch for just three months... i know it will be sorted but thats not the point... i hope you get yours sorted out quickly.

Try this first before you go to the AD... unset the crown to the position where you can move the hands. Then go to the 10:45ish PM to 12 PM mark to try and advance the date, keep doing this a few times to get the date mechanism going, then try and see if this resolves the problem. If this doesnt fix it bring it into the AD. Try and advance it at least 10 days using this cycle to make sure that everything is working okay.

Perhaps they should have stayed at 26k watches a year!

no not yet...
since i will be traveling to the city of the boutique that I bought the watch on the 22nd of this month...its been day 6 of observation and watch is doing fine for now...

i will be letting the watch continue to "operate" on its own in my winder at 750tpd without interference...

if its fine by then i will live with it for awhile longer (since its a new watch and i have 3 years warranty anyway).... just read horror stories of another forumer's experience of a scratched bezel after sending his piece in for service!

I've had my 2012 Jumbo since August and have not had any issues with it (knock on wood).

Its been worn almost every day since I bought it. It never goes on a watch winder. I generally take it off when I get home from work and I put it on again the next morning and have not had any issues.

Hope things work out for you.

Maybe you have a problem with the winder.... mine has been rock steady so far. Winders aren't always the best for watches and some auto watches even do not recommend using winders...

Hope AP sorts out your issue. If it has worked for 14 days it is strange that it got stuck.

The fact that it worked for 14 days makes me wonder if there's a particular area of the date wheel that's catching. Maybe there's a tight fit or a weak gear lock that affects only in a particular area of the date wheel. Are you noticing that certain dates on the date wheel seem to be getting stuck consistently?

I'd hate to think a winder can't be used for a watch that:
1 - is not typically used as a daily beater
2 - only has a 40-hour reserve and
3 - has no date quickset.

The movement in his AP has been around for decades. It has been used by AP, VC, and PP. The issue with his watch is a shame, but I'm sure it will get sorted out. Its not something one commonly hears about with the Jumbo.

Staying away from AP because of 1 or 2 instances of watch having a problem is silly. I had 2 problems with my first inhouse movement Rolex Daytona. They were fixed under warranty and that was the end of it. It didn't keep me from buying subsequent Rolex watches and I've never had problems with any others I've owned even another Daytona.
