Thoughts on the 5990
I am curious how the forum regards the 5990.
At times, I have a few different thoughts...not necessarily 'pro's and con's' but I suppose somewhat analogous... Pro's: great combination of useful complications, built on the Nautilus platform, wears great on the wrist, though subject to personal taste the dial 'color' is surprisingly interesting to me (not a pure black or grey but graduated), a rock solid stainless steel sport watch.... Con's: thick for a Nautilus, original design of the Nautilus case not adhered to, can be a bit top heavy.... Curious what others think...in some ways, its almost like the ROO of Patek - but I know there are those AP enthusiasts who also feel the ROO is an abomination of the RO...is the 5990 the Nautlius taken too extreme? |

I like the 5990 and am waiting for one.
Personally, I would rather it was a travel time without the chronograph (a Nautilus version of the 5164). On a purely aesthetic level, I prefer the markers to be as close to the rehaut as possible....moving them towards the centre makes the dial appear smaller and over-busy (IMHO same issue with 5980). I like the grey dial very much...

I am not keen on the verticality of two wheels on the watch. Removing the complications of the watch and focusing purely on the aesthetics of the dial, I prefer one wheel, or if two, I prefer them to be horizontal.

I think it’s the perfect watch. It has the two complications that I truly use on any watch. It’s the easiest to dress up or down in the Nautilus lineup. (Not to include a time only Nautilus such as the 5711)
The case shape gives it a little more beefy, manly appearance and the dial color is beautiful. Honestly, what’s not to love??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Maybe try it on the wrist instead of the hand? |

It’s the best Nautilus. Not too thin and dainty like the 5712 and 5711 and it has two useful complications. The bezel is also thinner than the 5980. It’s a modern version of an old fashioned watch.

I haven’t seen one in person but it looks like an ideal everyday watch for me. Chronograph gets used frequently. Travel time and good WR make it excellent for travel (and isn’t easily recognizable). Of course getting one is a whole other story

How does the dial color of the 5990 compare to the 5726A?
I have the latter and will (fingers crossed) get the former later this year. |

To me, the thicker 5980 and 5990 exhibit strong visual presence given their unique Nautilus shape case. It's possible to spot a thick Nautilus from a distance. I like both thick and thin Nautilus.

I really like the travel time complication but am not a fan of the sub dials placed vertically. I wish they were horizontal. Then it would be an incredible watch.
I think I would enjoy the size and weight. Maybe if a different dial color was introduced it would become closer to the top of the Nautilus line up for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If I could, I'd have gotten the 5976 (WG Anniversary) as that's some serious sized Nautilus.
Opinion on 5990: It's beautiful. When I got it 4 years ago I couldn't appreciate it, so it went out into the wild again for a small profit, but nowadays, I'm seeking for it and will keep it this time. Overtime we can grow with something and appreciate it. 5990 is one of my regrets for not keeping. |

I thinks it’s great and would gladly pick one up if given the opp.
Still like the 5712 over the 5990 but can’t be picky in these times. |

5990 is a super cool watch and it’s easy to understand why many would call this the ultimate Patek.
For me the 5711A is perfect and my choice, especially for the 120m WR.

I prefer the restrained look of the 5711 (and 5712) - the 5990 is too bulky and loud (in terms of looks) for my taste. No right or wrong of course...
Apart from that I am one of the few here who don't appreciate travel time (or GMT) pieces as the matter between my ears automatically deals w different time zones all the time... |

Not a fan of the two subdials set up and the logo on the bottom part of the dial.

Thicker than a Nautilus ought to be.
