patek and hip hop / rap culture - neat

its amazing and pretty cool that patek has become part of hip hop culture, and now is represented by so many young and diverse entertainers. When i think about patek, many of their songs come to mind. Certainly expands the brand, like gucci or louis vuitton, or other luxuries that became popular in the entertainment industry.

Looks like the preferred pieces are the nautilus and the grand complications. I dont see that much interest in ACs.

Patek must be actively selling to this community? As the pieces are hard to obtain, based on what i see out there. Are the diamond encrusted ones aftermarket addons?

The diamond encrusted models are almost all aftermarket jobs

I hope theyll start rapping about AC so my 5205 can rise in price and I can offload it at a profit.

Now that’s funny!

Personally, I wish rappers / celebs didn’t know about PP. unless they are really into watches or course. Not just the bling.

Anybody thinking about letting go a Nautilus better exit before the rappers and celebs have moved on to the next big thing...

I'm fairly certain rappers are not the target audience Patek is going after but it's free media advertising for the brand.

I wish Pateks were more under the radar. There was a time you could walk around London wearing one, safe in the knowledge thieves would not know what it was.

It seems many of the Footballers (Soccer / US guys) have ditched Rolex for PP or RM

Much more noticeable now then a year or so before

No wonder I can't get a 5164 - Virgil Van Dijk and Daniel Sturridge has bought them all :)

LOL... I am sure only a small portion of the actual demand comes from the hip crowd but the hip crowd has helped in generating the increasing Nautilus demand we have been witnessing. As soon as these guys move on the Nautilus demand will be in for a dive IMO...

That was before moped crime had a surge.

Back in 2011 when my friend showed me his 5712/1A and I thought my AP ROO (Rubberclad) was more expensive. Those days I didn't know how you could justify spending 30,000 on a steel watch.

Its quite a shift with the new image of patek being associated with wealthy entertainers. Im noticing them in hiphop culture and with atheletes. Obviously these individuals, since they are famous, are probably treated differently as they have much more ability to spend. The video with pras and the factory diamond nautilus phoenix and his skymoon, etc. is an impressive collection.

i would like to hope and think, that the AD wouldnt be swayed by famous people or athletes etc, and they would get treated the same as everyone,

i know my AD doesnt get swayed, and ive also seen it with a famous boxer ask a AD and he got told the same response, , and the boxer wasnt happy

Of course they would get preference, way of the world. Your boxer must have been featherweight or something

I don't PP is actively selling to these customers, a few maybe, but most others are buying blinged or iced aftermarket watches.

Kinda makes me want to sell my 5711, take advantage of the current prices and get a real Patek. A complicated one.

I like rap and I like a Patek. But I preferred when they were not merged. People rapping about iced out Patek’s actually kind of a deterrent.

Praz has one hell of a Patek collection.

Charlie Sheen looks and dresses like the "target audience" so I guess that makes him a model Patek customer???

i dont get this "target audience" commentary. Why wouldnt wealthy entertainers be the "target audience"? Whether they are musicians or sports starts, or movie stars, these are wealthy people who can choose any watch they want.

I presume that successful wealthy young individuals are a better demographic for a lifetime of purchases compared to others.

A trend/fad solely due to the cost, it’s very doubtful the majority have a true appreciation for the watch.

Not if, but when will it end.

Praz does have an insane watch collection. I took a tour of an unnamed manufacturer and got to try on his 1 of 1 platinum piece. Was a cool watch.
