Which does your wife like? If you like the three equally but she had a strong preference maybe that might help you choose? If it were me I'd go for the date sub simply because they look the part in any situation; with jeans at the weekend, at the beach, with a suit, in your birthday suit....a sub never looks wrong. And they age beautifully. Just my two cents. Enjoy the watch whichever you decide on-hope it gives you a lifetime of pleasure.

A lot of people have said to me when they see my Milgauss GV, if they had to pick one Rolex they would pick that one. I bought it for it's scientific aspects. I think you should try them on and see which one you keep coming back to. I took a great photo today!

My suggestion is to get the sub first, then the mgv later.

I've got both SubC and Milgauss. I'd rather have a milgauss as my first Rolex! It's just an amazing piece

I got the Sub date in black. Love it. It goes with everything from jeans and a button up to suit and tie. The best first Rolex IMO. Then you can get other pieces to enhance you collection. The Milguass is my next Rolex.

My first was Milgauss.. I do have a sub but I aint wearing it.. 90% of the Rolexes I see in the wild is in fact Sub. That makes me like the Millie even more.

Same question when i decide to choose my first Rolex, and the sub wins because......it simply has the date.....while MGV don't...

I've heard countless stories from my clients about buying their first Submariner "back in the day" for $600 or so ... and still wearing them daily today.
So with that, I'd say go with the Submariner. One day you can look back, tell a friend, "I remember spending $8000 on my Submariner back in 2012 and today they are over $20,000 in stainless steel!"

My first was the Milgauss GV. The Sub and Milgauss are both beauties, but for me...the Sub is so common. I don't ever see myself with a DateJust....just too boring for me. The DSSD would have been my first Rolex if I did it over again. The Sub is a great everyday watch IMO.

If it's going to be your one and only Rolex, I'd go the Sub with black dial black bezel. It'll fit into every situation perfectly. The Milgauss, esp the green sapphire crystal version, is also fine for a first Rolex watch as long as you feel it will be the first of several lol. Yes, it's a Rolex, but I don't think it's as iconic as the likes of the Sub. I've actually removed the bracelet from my Milgauss and put it on a strap, to be used for casual wear, it's a total sleeper, not drawing any attention from any one at all.

Go into the store and try them all on. Look at yourself in multiple mirrors. Take photos of them on your wrist. Then go home... come back next week and do the same. Eventually you'll figure out which one sings to you.
For me, its the Sub Date. I was considering a Milgauss in the beginning but the Sub Date felt right. Classic, timeless, versatile. You can't ever go wrong with a Sub. |

Go sub date.. It is more expensive because of the foremention date, ceramic bezel and other things that a true rolex enthusiast could easily explain. Or you can wait for the 2012 sub no date with ceramic bezel, which in term of price wise, will not be much different with subC date.
Millgauss is a great model too, but as first rolex, sub will hit the right spot.. |

I'm debating between the two as well. I'm leaning towards the Milgauss since I don't think I'll go long without a Sub anyway so this makes it easier for me. :)
