Suggestions for a watch for my son
Hello, My son has his 10th birthday soon and I’m trying to find a new watch for him. His old watch (pictured) is 35 mm wide and has a generic quartz movement. The watch has taken some hit and is now broken, thus it needs to be replaced. Any good suggestions for a good replacement similar to old one? Black face with arabic numerals preferred. The boy is currently wearing his watch with a NATO strap, thus bracelet is not needed. I’ve tried to find similar watch with poor results.. |

They don't have the black dial / Arabic numeral combo (they have a black dial but not with Arabic and they have Arabic numerals, but not with black dial), but maybe the Seiko Sport 5 Street Fighter series? They're a pretty cool watch, automatic and should stand up to a lot.

What is the budget? It appears he loves his watches so a new one is definitely in order.

Seiko 5.
Automatic under $100 and can be had with a black face. My sons has the green face and it came with the green nato style strap. It may be optional with the black face, I’m not sure. Exhibition case back as well to keep their interest.

Ten is still kinda young for a standard size men’s watch.
I’d go for a Swatch or a Timex retro model. |

Is it possible he’s looking for something different now?
Any idea which direction the boy is leaning? At that age watches for boys are often driven by what the new thing is. My kids are adults now so I don’t know what’s what in ten year old kids. Maybe have someone ask him what watches are popular with the age group and which one he likes. |

I think you can find this for around $350 range. 38mm. Can put it on a Nato and save the bracelet for a few years from now. Maybe even engrave it. Could be a keeper for life?

Suggestions for a watch for my son
Thanks! I’ll have a look on proposed models.
What comes to budget: 100-150 $ (or €) is the sweetspot as I don’t believe it would make sense to put too much money at this stage on a watch which eventually might (=probably) be broken or lost during his ’adventures’ and activities. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I’d get him a nice durable Luminox or G-Shock.

I took my 12 year old daughter out to look for watches as she showed an interest (hooray). It was G-Shock hands down. She went for digital, but there are some cool analogue versions too and not all enormous.
