I was offered this worldtimer should I do it?

Hello fellow members I was just offered a 5110p with box only for around $28k is the price good?
And is there anything to look for?
All comments are appreciated
Thank you

You should ask for reduction in price to cover the cost of obtaining an extract.

The seller told that the price already reflects the loss of papers and that with papers this would go in the neighborhood of $35-45k

If you like the watch and you feel the price is right for you, go for it. Watch purchases are personal decisions.

WT are not discussed here very often unless they are of the enamel dial variety. However I think they are great watches and I own several Patek WTs.

For an older watch like the 5110, unless you know the service history, I would anticipate the watch needing a service and add that to the purchase price.

Yes a Platinum World Timer at $28k is a good buy even without papers - get an extract from the archives.

Questions to ask:

Is the date of last service known?

Is it running and functioning as it should?

Get high resolution photographs or best see it in person so you know the true condition.

Clasp - deployant?

For reference I paid about 35k a few years ago for a single sealed 5110p, full set original papers, my first Patek.

That being said if you can trust the seller and in good shape (can't tell from pictures) - I would do it. I love it, wear it often and is one of my favorite WT.

An extract is $150.
So, you would go back and say.
"No I can't give you $28,000, it doesn't have the extract.
The best I will do is $27,850 to cover the cost." ?

By the way the cheapest one available between eBay and chrono24 is $34,000.

The biggest question is do you trust the seller. Are you 100% sure this is legit ?

I looked at the World Timer on chrono24 a little closer.
For $34k you get no box, no papers and it's located in Turkey.

I would do it if it's an established seller with good reputation in my country and I could afford it. If this is a seller based in a country you don't speak the language of or seller has no reviews or reputation I would be cautious. Sounds like a great deal on an amazing watch though.

Like milgauss said if the price already reflects the exteact... my thinking is why nickel and dime a good deal? It's like people refusing to buy a $350k house if they won't include the fridge...? Why isn't it enough?

I would also assume you can verify that it hasn't been reported stolen.

Lucky you, I need some friends like that!

That is a great price. Real question is will these pieces stay in this low range or start to rise in price as the 3940s did.

For OP, if you have not seen a WT or a 5110 in person, it may be worth your time finding one to try on in person. It is not discussed often, but legibility can be an issue. Legibility may be a concern with many Patek watches.

However if the watch is not going to be a daily watch, then legibility may be a secondary issue. Most WT owners do not typically wear a WT as a daily watch and usually have several other Pateks and/or other watches they wear more regularly.

Why would an owner or seller forfeit 7000-17000$ when asking for an archive extract is only around 150$???
Plus: that quoted variance based on papers is ridiculous. Note that you will only be able to get an extract from the archives. The certificate of origin is only ever issued once in the life of the watch

Do a quick check on chron24 and you will see what they trade for (add the correct filters)

I only buy preowned Pateks either with papers or service history. PP will slap a service sticker on the case back. Nobody is counterfeiting those that I’m aware of.

If you go WT then I think 5930 is the move
