Questions for Willard Owners

Hello Folks,

I am considering adding a new Willard to the collection and have a few questions. I have the navy blue turtle, and am wondering if the Willard and Turtle are too similar to have in the same collection. Second, how do the Willard and turtle compare in size? I see the specs on the Willard come in a bit smaller than the turtle, but I suspect thats because they did not take the measurement from the crown guard rather the section that is concave, though I dont know that to be sure. Lastly, there is the issue of blue, green, versus black. Having a blue dial watch, 2 black dial watches, im inclinded toward the green. However, the Green is olive in tone, and how versatile is that? I would appreciate any thoughts.

I have all three,

My order is green, blue, black. Great watches. Never had a turtle so dunno the comparison/fit. That said, I have a bony 6.5 and like it on my wrist. Only reason I bought these is the smaller case.

The green really appears to change color from what I have seen and seems to be more dynamic compared to the others in that regard. Thanks for the feedback.

Same here. I have handled cheaper Seiko and in terms of quality the limited Willard checks all the spots. Probably the best value/price ratio watch in my collection. I'd put it on par with with $5K diver equivalents of Swiss or German origin.

Accept no substitute... Specially for the merger purchase price.

I’m leaning toward the green one, chiefly because I don’t have green in the collection and there are very few olive green watches out there, but I love the blue and man that matte black is very nice as well.

There is NO SUCH thing as a green captain Willard... You're speaking about a completely different diver piece.
Good luck with that

Is that right. What would you call the SPB153 then? Multiple publications refer to it as the Willard and as being green. We are all aware the one in the movie was a black dial.

I own the Willard-X in black on bracelet, and also SRP777 and 779 Turtles (as well as a vintage 6306). There is definitely room in a collection for both. The Willard is slightly smaller than the Turtle, though it's still a substantial watch. But the case is different from the Turtle, and the indices and hands are totally different. It's a different watch with a different vibe - get one! Especially if you own a blue Turtle, it'll fit in nicely. Color is personal preference - I got black because it's true to the original, but that's up to you.

Definitely not true. Seiko did not name those watches. And they do not use that naming convention.

The name "Willard" and "Turtle" just came about it the last few years due to blogs/fans.

The current Willard follows the same case line as the original 6105, that is why it is referred to as the Willard. The current Turtle cases closely resemble the 6309. Which some now call a Turtle case.

I would have to say the Blue “LTD” version. Maybe it was luck of the draw but it doesn’t have alignment issues and it’s much nicer in person. The black one is nice but the face is really close to grey. Now with the new SLA versions I might have to change my mind.
