Tell me I'm crazy: perfect pair for a more perfect pair?

Hello forum members,

I'd like you input about a potential shift in my 2 Rolex collection that I've started to dream about.

In 2018 I was lucky enough to acquire two new watches which I have felt are the perfect Rolex pair. A 116718 and a 116500 with black dial.

While I certainly love them both, I have recently started dreaming of a YG Daytona with mop diamond dial because I love the 116500 so much.

Just adding a 116528 is not feasible for me right now, perhaps a few years down the road, but for now let's consider that is not an option.

I'm thinking about flipping both my 116500 and 116718 for a 114060 and 116528 (diamond mop dial). I can get the 114060 from my AD and would likely trade my two watches for the 116528 plus some cash coming my way (somewhere in gray market).

Please share your thoughts? Talk some sense into me. I just got both watches in 2018.

Here are a few images for comparison.

My current pieces:

Everyone knows what a no date sub looks like so I’ll omit the photo of that piece.

Seems a little uneven value wise on your end. I see the Daytona going between $30-35k preowned and the 114060 at around $7500. Your Daytona has a second hand value of $18-20k and the GMT is right around $28ish. Depends on how much cash your AD is willing to add.

I personally like your 2 piece collection as is and am not a fan of the MOP daytona.

The math that I’ve done has my Daytona ~$18k and my gmt ~$22k. Basically ~$40k total going in.

I’ve found the mop diamond Daytona new with stickers for $33k. The no date sub I can get for the $7500 msrp from my AD.

I do appreciate the input that you prefer my current duo. Thank you.

That MOP Daytona looks the nuts, and I ain’t a Daytona fan except in photos. But your gold GMT sings. I wouldn’t get rid of it

what about just flipping the gmt and adding cash for the yg daytona? you have a great pair now but i feel like if you want something it won't leave your mind so asking people for their opinion might not be the best solution

I'd personally stick with the pair you already have. I'm not really a fan of the MOP Daytona.

I would stick with your current pair, but I’m not a fan of MOP on any watch. Don’t let the forums drive you to constantly flip or it will be a never ending cycle.

I think you were right on with..." the perfect Rolex pair." I am not a fan of the MOP Daytona, but then if we all liked the same thing it would be a dull world!

Ultimately it’s got to me about what you’re happiest with but if it’s me, I keep rolling with what you have. Really don’t like the mop diamond dial on the Daytona. You’ve got a great pair already!

I also like the duo you have, but if you really want to scratch the itch, go for it. I just tried on a 114060 yesterday and loved it. MOP isn't for me, if I went YG daytona, it'd definitely be the green dial.

I understand the tendency of something new/different may feel like an "upgrade" from what you currently have. However, I would not support this trade and would much rather keep the two already in your collection. It's not even a close call, at least for me.

Best gold watch in the professional range is the GMT you already own, blingy Daytona is a girls watch

My personal preference would be your black SS Daytona over the gold MOP one. If you like the MOP one because it reminds you of the white one, why not just get the white one? Or trade your black SS Daytona plus a little cash for the white one.

I guess I can come up with a lot of alternatives I prefer to the MOP option. But this is about making you happy!

I'd stay put. That PM Daytona doesn't tickle my fancy. Whatever makes you happy though!

I love having both SS and YG choices, so I would not mess that deal up. If you decide to flip, I would give up the GMT. Also don't worry about the diamond MOP dial comments. Most folks on here don't like bling. Get what you WANT!!

The ultimate combo would be keep the gold GMT + trade the SS Daytona for a different model PM one.

Not a fan of the mop dial at all.

Try to be happy with what you have. When you start flipping watches you just bought, it's a slippery slope.

Since you ask, I would keep the Daytona because I'm not a fan of PM on Rolex and don't like the MOP/diamond dial at all. If anything, I would trade the GMT for something else. If you prefer PM for one of your watches, I would look to a different brand entirely like Lange, JLC, etc.

I don't think you would gain anything meaningful by that trade, other than you get a YG Daytona. And if you want one that bad, just flip your black Daytona for one. With the trading price of the 500 so high, now's the time.

All that other math and swapping this for that makes my head hurt.

Thank you for all the encouraging posts here. Your input and kind words on my current pieces are very much appreciated.

I do love the two pieces that I currently have, and haven’t wanted another watch aside from the rainbow Daytona (which is totally out of my league) until I came upon this newer MOP dial with diamonds instead of Romans. I do very much like MOP on watches despite the general consensus here (which I do appreciate).

After thinking about this all day and reading your comments. My mind is somewhat settling on that “it’s kind of nice to want something.”

I do feel that while this swap would satisfy the short term itch for the MOP YG Daytona, I might be missing my current pieces before too long. Maybe I should slow down for a moment and think about this one more.... I’m still relatively young (at 36) so I’ll undoubtedly have some future life events that maybe I could justify adding the 116528 to celebrate.

I do feel that it’s very important to me to have at least 1 SS Rolex in the stable as it doesn’t feel appropriate to always wear a YG piece. Part of my problem seems to be that when I really like a SS piece, my mind uncontrollably drifts to “well, this is great, but it could be better if it were YG.”
