Just bought a vintage Rolex and want to know more about it,

I just bought my first Rolex (I hope) and want some feed back. It does not say Swiss made on the dial. Thanks

Welcome to the forum! And congrats on the vaguest post in history!

Can you provide more information on your watch, preferably with photos?

Caseback and movement don’t look very « Rolex » to me; but I may be completely wrong.

Yep, you’re just completely wrong. Just an early oyster.

It is an Oyster 3478 with what looks like a repainted dial IMHO.

about 1942. Correct type 59 movement. Correct case back. Case looks like it has very little (if any) wear - which is strange for gold plated oyster cases from 1940s. Refinished dial.

yep definitely refinished dial. But possibly used radium so dont take it out of the case without a mask on.

Here is what another guy wrote on the model (the version released in the US). A little piece of history, which is what is so fantastic about these watches!

THIS IS A CANADIAN MARKET ROLEX OYSTER COMMANDER FROM 1940 (AT THIS TIME UNDER A COMPLEX AGREEMENT BETWEEN ROLEX, GRUEN AND THE MOVEMENT MANUFACTURERS AEGLER AND FHF, ROLEX WAS NOT PERMITTED TO SELL WATCHES IN AMERICA AS THIS WAS THE AGREED TERRITORY OF GRUEN, AND LIKE WISE, ROLEX HAD GREAT BRITAIN, THE COLONIES AND CANADA AS THEIR SOLE SALES AREAS) FINISHED IN ROLLED GOLD WITH THE FHF CALIBRE 59 17 JEWEL MOVEMENT WITH STRIPED BRIDGES. THE DELIBERATE ABSENSE OF THE TRADE MARK ROLEX NAME FROM THE DIAL ,IT IS BELIEVED, WAS TO ENABLE ROLEX TO SELL THEIR WATCHES IN THE NEAREST MARKET TO THE USA WITH OUT BREAKING THE COMPLEX SALES AGREEMENTS THAT WERE IN PLACE AT THE TIME WITH THEIR MOVEMENT PRODUCERS.( IT IS WORTH NOTING THAT THE ROLEX TRADE MARK DOES APPEAR ON THESE CANADIAN OYSTER SERIES WATCHES BUT ONLY ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE DIAL, AND CAN ONLY BE SEEN ONCE THE DIAL HAS BEEN REMOVED. NEVER THE LESS, THESE ARE IN EVERY WAY, FULL BLOWN ROLEX WATCHES AND ALMOST IDENTICLE TO THOSE SOLD BY THE COMPANY IN BRITAIN , EUROPE AND THE COLONIES. MANY OF THESE WATCHES WERE GIVEN TO CANADIAN SERVICE MEN AS THEY ENTERED THE SECOND WORLD WAR
