5170G or 5140G?

Which one would you pick at exactly the same price/conditions? I know most will say ‘buy what you like’. I like both. Then it comes the lifestyle answers... I dress formal and casual, and like dress and sports watches. Both these references are somewhat overshadowed by their predecessors (5070 and 3940) in terms of collectibility. I acknowledge this is largely a guessing question, but which of these you think will hold value stronger in the long run, 5170 or 5140?

I’m biased although the 5140 has a more useful complication I prefer the look of the 5170.

5170G if forced to pick out of the two because it has already tanked and the 5140 was never a big hit.

Of these two, I'd go 5170. But, as you mention in your post, the 5070 and 3940 are more loved. Go for one of those instead

The manual wind chrono in my opinion. Less desired than it's predecessor, but hopefully it will be more appreciated in time.

Ugh, neither of these have lived up to the hype. Head to head I guess the chronograph. Apologies for the lack of enthusiasm.

Minority here. 5140g. Perpetual calendar that’s should be in a WIS list. I have difficulty understanding why a Chrono of Patek is in manual mode. And a Perpetual Chrono manual as well. No offense to any owner of these pieces.

They are manual wind so you can see the beautiful movement and the horizontal clutch in action - if it was an auto winder then more likely to be a vertical clutch as everything is partially hidden.
(5370 movement)

I suspect the 5170 to have a broader appeal and as a consequence perform better in terms of future value however, I recently sold mine for a PC 5940.

Reasons:
I preferred the thinner profile
I do not find the pushers of the chrono to be a pleasant experience
I have come to realize that a 30 timer leaves me 30 minutes short of the preferred hour.
I find the balance of the PC to be exceptional, while the 5170 (except the P) imho does not quite hit the mark.

Both beautiful watches and certainly anyone would be fortunate to have either on the wrist.
Always a good idea to gather insight before committing.

Finally, be sure to try them on for the best indicator in my opinion.
