I was preparing my response as I read the original post, but the advice here is sound, and echoes my philosophy.
It took me 30 years of buying/selling/trading/adding cash to acquire my grail. When I finally reached the ridiculous sum, I was okay with it because it was honest fun money specifically earmarked for watches. Now that I have the grail (which I do not want to trade or sell to "upgrade"), I have started again. A $700 Hamilton chrono followed my Nautilus 5980 chrono purchase. Now I have Swiss auto chrono book-ends! |

see it as investing, if you buy right it will almost loose no value, I just sold for 25K euros my 5712 that I bought brand new 1,5 year ago for 25.2K euros, I got it BNIB, sold it mint, so I lost 200 euros and had a watch I loved for that time, do it you won"t regret man

An update to this thread. I've not bought an AP or Patek.... to me, they're not worth the money. That's me. I did buy a deep blue, though , because I know I'll get my money back if I sell it years from now. Plus I enjoy wearing it.
I tried on a nautilus and it looked very outdated, stuffy, and downright ugly. My wife didn't like it. Her comment was it looked like a used 1970s watch ... she said to get a master control instead or a vacheron overseas used for less. Methinks the customer market has driven patek pricing up.... out of my reach financially. this is me, just my opinion! I have the money but can't take the 20k leap for a time piece I tried on a callatrava also but prefer my existing vcacheron historque over,it. It's paid for, |

I have been eyeing the overseas for a while. The pre owned VC is very reasonable at the moment.

The NEW overseas is stunning. Also, I'm seeing jlc master controls for 3500$ usd which is absolutely insane. That's a 7000$ watch easily..... the movement and craftsmanship are amazing, I was, told jaeger s service has suffered a lot and their reputation is a bit tarnished for now, I wonder if vacheron has suffered as well, being all owned by the same company bowl
