Which Perpetual Calendar Chrono?

Hi guys

Nice to join you, I am Andrea, italian based in London

It has been a lot of time I have thought of buying a Patek Chrono and I am finally ready to do it

My first choice would be the 5970 (either a G or a P) but, given the attractive second market price of the 5270 I was also recently looking into it..

Aesthetically wise I would go for the 5970.. From an investment point of view I am excited about the 5270's first in house movement and think that sooner or later it will recover in value.. I heard that maybe at Baselworld next year also the P version will come out

I am aware that you had a lot of similar discussions in the past but I would like to hear your updated thoughts given also today's prices and new models

Thank you all and have a great Sunday

5970. I'm picking mine up on Monday week, cannot wait. Absolute grail watch.

For me, it really is as good as it gets. That Lemania movement pips it for me. The proportions are completely perfect in every respect.

I honestly can't say enough about the 5970. The other piece that may be a contender is the 3970. Still for me the 5970 gets it.

I prefer the 5270 blue dial to any 5970, but might be worth waiting to see if there will be a 5270P this year, it could be smashing.

Can't disagree. Took them 3 goes to get it right, but the 5270 is awesome.

Next year we might see a 5270J; if I were you I would get a 5270g blue dial!

5270g in white dial.

At that price point I'd want to get a brand new watch from an AD but that's my personal preference.

I'd try to find a mint condition 1st Series white dial 5270G:

It is so beautiful, congrats on having such a stunner in your collection! Do you leave the chrono running all the time?

No on the 5270. After talking with a Patek watch maker in an event last February in Naples, he advised not to leave it running. With that being said, he said my 5980 1R was designed to leave it running.

Sell your house, car, other watches, take your kids' college fund, and go ahead, see easy, you've made it

5970p still my favourite even though 5270 is arguably a slightly better size and fit for me.

Really?
5970 sub dials and hands for leap year and 24 hour indication make THAT the busier dial. More hands and dials in a smaller size.

5270 is objectively a cleaner piece. At a loss to understand your view.

Look closely at the dial of the 5270. The Tach is busier than the 5970. The numbers in the sub-dials are coarser. The new circular apertures along with the sub dials below the centre axis makes the dial appear bottom heavy (along with the lack of full indices in the bottom half, unlike the 5970). And the moon phase is smaller (it's ends don't extend downwards like a standard Patek moon phase). This was done to try and lessen the downwardness of the dial. To me there is no comparison if we're talking dial design. The 5970 is more coherent and pleasing to the eye.

Agree totally, I prefer the 5270'dial, and the markers for year and day/night

That's interesting! I wonder is it to do with the fact that the 5980 is a fly back chrono. I'm picking up my 5970 on Monday so I'll assume the same advice stands as per your 5270.

Why would one want to leave the chrono running? Both models have a running second hand.
