Was it ever a simple sports watch?
Remember this came after the Royal Oak had been in existence for 4 years, and it too was pushed out in PMs, Squelette, and PC form, with no-one seemingly batting an eyelid.

@Andy — thanks for a decent couple of photos. Embossing doesn't look as stark, although I suspect lighting angle, etc will play a major role in that.
Did you notice if the bracelet at the clasp (& the clasp itself) was wider, to counterbalance the wider case?

One word and this is my personal very personal opinion: YUCK

I am truely so soooooo disappointed. A simple no seconds 5711 in SS would have been so great but no - Patek need to innovate (Diamonds, Platinum and dial Inscription). If it's not broken don't fix please PLEASE (and do learn a thing or two from Audemars Piguet).

Patek Philippe seem to no longer care what many of us think, as it appears they only care about selling ever-more expensive watches and creating the illusion of 'limited supply'. Look forward to seeing what these get at auction in the next few months, as recent auction prices seem to be on the low side.

Just wondering how many of you will change your mind if PP remove those tombstone engraving on the dial but keep the diamond indices?

I know I probably would as I don't mind the diamonds on the 5711, I would be slightly disappointed that it would be all they'd come up with for an anniversary piece (mind you, thinking of it a 40th birthday is not like half a century for a watch). I don't think I would for the chrono though, I prefer the baguettes on the simpler model.

Or how about removing both.

Drop the price $30k.

Call it a production piece.

I'm in.

Are the 5711P selling at a discount at auction? Cheers

Karl, I suspect that all 700 pieces of the 5711P have already been assigned to their new owners. Who will be eagerly awaiting the phone call from their AD

I have no doubt they will sell those 5711P's.

The other 1300 might be a little harder, but eventually sell and TS will be busy counting the money.

Everyone will sleep well at PP HQ as always.

Did your friend say when PP will start to deliver this LE's?

So not Patek

Totally agree the font on the face is very low rent, the beauty with Patek is that less is more and the 1976 - 2016 isn't required. I have and do work hard and haven't blown thousands on cigarettes so own a 5711 and a GMT Blue / Black, I enjoy both pieces but have to say that when I put the nauty on the Rolex is soon forgotten only because many people don't know what it is and if someone asks I just politely comment "if you don't know then don't worry about it".

I understand why Patek didn't display any nautilus at Basel this year in anticipation to launch the two 40th models but I would rather have a SS 5711 and a new Range Rover for the price of a 5711/1P 40th.

Patekaholic has put up a good wrist shot of the 5976. Personally I'm a fan, I think the size suits a larger wrist.

Perhaps that is the point, only those who know what they are looking at, will recognise it for what it represents.
