Rolex Explorer question
I'm new here so I'll start by saying hello! I have a 1953 Q4 Rolex Explorer, which Rolex tell me is a 6510-0 movement. I'd like to know a bit more about it, and was hoping some people could clarify the early history of the Explorers...
BTW I'm not using the original strap as it tends to rip the hairs out of my wrist... John |

BTW here is a pic of the inside of the watch, in case it isn't clear the lettering on the left hand side says "6150" and "IV 53":

Ah, the original picture seems to have gone missing, don't know if that is as I'm new here and it will reappear at some point or it just got consumed somewhere along the way... here's another attempt to post it...

Looks great! An "Everest Era Explorer," you don't see many of those! Thanks for posting and welcome!

Gorgeous vintage Explorer! I have a much more contemporary Explorer (114270) that gets a lot of wrist time. At any rate, you can find plenty of historical information on the Explorer by searching Google...here's a start:

Sorry Dr Jon, I meant to provide this watchprosite link (below) instead of the one I posted above. My bad!

I also think I might be making a mistake. I gave the serial number as 17,xxx as that's the movement serial number. The case is 944,9xx. Which one is what people use as THE serial number?
