New Double-Red Sea-Dweller
Finally got another DRSD to replace one I stupidly traded about six years ago. Been wanting one ever since, but couldn’t find one I loved, and missed out on a couple. Shout out to Michael Morgan of Iconic Watches, whom I had been bugging for a couple of years about a 1665, and to Ed Delgado of DRSD.com for helping to look it over.
It’s from the last batch of MK3s dials, 4.1 million, about 1974; full serial number engraved inside case-back. Apparently unpolished case, silver date-wheel with open 6s/9s, and an immaculate dial with crazy matching patina that looks caramel in some light and mustard in other light. Had to give up a lot to get it, including my beloved 1655, but worth it. |

Wow. I also would have to give up a lot for that. And close to my birth year. Depends on what chart you are using. Congrats.

Congrats! What wonderful patina.
I missed my 1665s a little too. Had 8 over the years between white and red. So I just picked up #9! |

Congratulations! Such a cool watch!! I had the opportunity about 10 years ago to pick up a very nice mk3 but at the time I felt it was a bit bulky for my feeble wrist.
I've started training since then and I think today I could carry it off Loosing that 1655 is going to hurt though |

As for the 1655, definitely tough to let it go. But I have a rule that I must get rid of at least one watch when I get another, otherwise I'd be like a junky and never stop. |

Great looking addition, congratulations! I know what you mean about maintaining a reasonable level of watches...I haven't slowed down myself and may put up my DRSD or 1655 on the block in the near future.

Very nice watch indeed. I hear you on the drsd bug. Was bitten in the last year and had to scratch it hard. Don't let it go this time well done.

Gorgeous DRSD!
A few years ago, I was in San Diego on the flight deck of the USS Midway watching the America's Cup trials. I saw an older gentleman standing next to me...he caught my eye because he didn't look like anyone else watching. He stood out in the crowd of spectators. I look over at him, then glance at his wrist...it was a DRSD...the only one I have ever seen in real life. It was magnificent! Since then, every time I look at these threads where members have acquired the DRSD, I am in awe and think back to that day. Thanks for sharing! |
