2011 Omega rumors!
I've heard it now from two sources. The Planet Ocean will not be getting the cal. 8500 movement next year. Rather, the exiting 2500 will be upgraded with the silicon balance spring.
And the Liquidmetal bezel will be added to the line. Fr. John† |

Interesting! Thanks Fr. John. How do you feel about the addition of the LM bezel to regular production? I'm assuming there will be subtle differences from the limited edition (ie dial color, color of lettering, etc).

That means the new PO will come with the four year warranty! That's pretty reassuring and definitely builds a little more confidence in the consumer market.

Please give me Cal 9300 in POC and Hour Vision chrono!!!!
That new chrono movement, if based on the 8500's design will make it one of the most sophisticated, accurate and beautiful chrono movements ever made... |

Liquidmetal bezel to all lines? What about the 3570?

I am disappointed to hear that. I chose not to buy a planet ocean because I thought it would get the 8500.

I could be wrong here, but in my opinion, the LM bezel is not the focus of the limited edition, but rather its the stunningly beautiful dial with applied markers. If they keep the PO dial and just move the LM bezel over to the production model, it wouldn't be undermining that piece really for that reason.

I heard from Omega Bond Street that manufacture of the LM bezel was difficult and was hampering the production of the limited edition. If that is the case then they have obviously sorted it out if it will be for general distibution.

I heard something similar from Bond Street last week when I picked my LM up. They also mentioned that they've been producing the LM in batches of 6 - Mappin and Webb apparently wanted to get hold of some for special customers, but bond street said that it wasn't going to happen as they have customers currently begging them from all over the world for one.
I hope the 2011 model doesn't feature too much (or any) of the LM festures, as seeing as I only got mine last week I would feel a little pee'd off. |

Presumably even if all POs have a liquid metal bezel, the Limited Edition will still be special as the new models will not have the extra shiny face of the LE.
I saw once some months ago at the Bond Street store (while buying a Vancouver and a strap/deployment clasp for an Alaska Project I bought elsewhere). I would have bought it if available in 45.5mm. I think the PO needs the extra heft for someone with my wrist size. |
