I could tell you which I would want but I'm not sure how that would help you.

If you are used to the date and rely on it, don't find the cyclops an eyesore and are willing to spend a little more then get the date.

If you don't find yourself using the date, find the cyclops a visual retraction and want to save a few bucks get the Submariner.

I went with the 14060 and no regrets. No date.

I much prefer the look of the Submariner.

For a one and only, I'd want to have a date complication.
Since its not a one and only for me it's an easy choice.

Sub date vs no date?

For me the ND, all day everyday. Clean dial, classic, plus I have the GMT with the date so don’t need it on the sub.

I go with Date every time. The watch looks like it’s missing something without it.

6 digit, I think the ND looks best. The added cyclops along with the ceramic bezel (shiny/eye catching) becomes a bit much for me. That said, I really like the date/cyclops on the older models.

For daily wear I would go for the DATE. You should also try on the DATE and NO DATE.

I like the aesthetics of the ND but I’ve also found I much prefer the practicality of a watch with a date. I sign and date documents constantly in my line of work and being able to double-check the date with a quick glance at my wrist is super convenient. So a Datejust has become my daily wearer.

No date looks better but you will miss having a date feature. Get the date!

It is really personal preference and I would say it depends on what else you have in your collection.

I was in the market for a diver and already had a 16710 GMT Master II so had been debating between the the Sub, Sub Date, and the Sea Dweller. The no date is the original and iconic model however, the date with the cyclopse is really the quintessential Rolex. Since I already had the date with the GMT, I wanted a little differentiation from that watch. Some people don’t go for the no date because they feel that they need a date on their watch, however, I already have a few watches with no date so I know I won’t miss it. Also, I felt that the no date was nice because of the symmetry.

At the end of the day, there is no wrong choice and it is up to what sings to you.

Good luck with your choice.

Also, if you are building a collection and may consider adding a Hulk or a bluesy at some point in the future, then the no date would be a good compliment to your collection.

I got the No Date and love it, gets the most wear in my collection.
I got a Sub Hulk two weeks ago and it’s a a different beast. It’s a fantastic watch but I notice that I’m still wearing the No Date the most often.

Currently my only sub is a Kermit. When I eventually add a black sub it will definitely be a no-date.

I love both of these models, but voted for Submariner with date. The caveat being if it's your one and only or your primary watch. I also feel like the date with magnifier is such a key part of Rolex's DNA. I know the no-date version is the original, but I prefer the date version.

If you have a few Rolexes with date then go for the no date for that perfect symmetry.

I’ve compared both. Went with the original version. It just looks cleaner and I don’t like the cyclops. I actually wouldn’t mind a date complication on the sub, but the cyclops is just unnecessary imo.

I should have read the entire thread first, so I could have just agreed with this. Exactly this.

I vote no date. Once you hit a certain age, as is the case with me, the date function becomes useless.

If your needing to ask the question get the date. The cyclops is part of the modern Rolex look and the date complication is very useful. A no-date Sub is at this point an acquired purist's taste and if your just wanting a watch, date all the way. Date is much harder to get than the no date which were always unsold in dealers cases until the shortage kicked in, if that tells you anything.

Date feature is always helpful but the no date is a much more cleaner dial IMHO.
