Is the SD50 perfect?

It is perfect. I have a relatively small wrist but it's very flat so going from a 40mm sub to this wasn't an issue.

If the SD4K had a red line of text, that would actually be the best iteration of the dweller in my opinion. But if you’ve got a large wrist and forearm and this one was sans cyclops, that too would be nearly perfect for the wearer IMO.

I continually go back and forth regarding the “perfectness” of this watch. As I have noted before, the caseback protrudes ever so slightly too much. This makes the watch uncomfortable at times. Really wish they could somehow adopt the DS caseback. The bezel is also slightly too wide relative to the overall watch. If these issues were somehow addressed, it would be as close to perfect as a diver can be in my opinion. I do believe having a 7in plus flat wrist really helps with this one.

It's close to perfect. A lot of people complain about the size, but I like that it is a bit larger to differentiate from the Sub.

My only gripe with it is the cyclops magnifier. I understand why it's there ..because Rolex now has the ability to put it on a watch with that depth rating. But no cyclops was a signature look of the Sea Dweller line. If they kept everything the same and removed the date magnifier I would own one.

I considered a SD4K for a short time, but that is too similar looking to my SubC I decided.

I love it, my only issue with it is the large caseback which protrudes quite a lot which then has to kind of sink into your wrist. Its the kind of watch you never forget you are wearing, although its not uncomfy either; you just always know its there.

Yes. With an 8+" wrist, the sub was ok but looked a little small for my personal taste. The SD43 is the perfect size for me. It replaced the DD40 as my daily.

For myself, there’s no such thing as perfect ... especially when it comes to man made objects. Here’s what I appreciate about the watch in no particular order however:

How well it keeps time with the new movement.

The gentle taper of the bracelet from the lugs to the clasp.

The brushed links of the bracelet. The way it subtlety plays with light is stunning.

The balance between the weight of the watch head and the bracelet.

The confident closure of the clasp.

Glidelock!

The narrow lugs that don’t overpower the watch face.

The matte dial against the white gold lume filled markers.

The red line of text. I barely notice it indoors but it pops in direct sunlight and when it does you can’t take your eyes off of it.

The sharp/crisp edges of the bezel. It’s such a nice contrast to the smoothness of the oyster steel bracelet.

The worry free ceramic bezel and the lack of play in the detent on the bezel.

The sound of the watch when you put it up to your ear.

I could go on and on. I’ve probably gone on too much already.

It may not be perfect...if your a purist, that is. However, it is one beautiful, bold, attention getter that Rolex got right, imho.

I know this is only the generic stock picture, but even here this watch looks absolutely stunning. Rolex haven't made anything more striking than this, to me at least.

You nailed it. I would add to the list of things I liked so much that made me chose it over every SS model Rolex makes to date the wider bracelet, the cyclops the perfect proportions and size of the watch. Ah, and the seconds marking on the bezel, work wonders timing my shoots.
