Survey: trying to acquire a blro gmt. Help needed

Hello all

Been lurking around the forum for a few months, and have learned a great deal here so thanks to all the members.

I'm based in Scotland and have been wanting to buy the blro gmt as a pass down to my son someday (he's only 3years old!!! Maybe thinking too long term). Would like to buy brand new with my name on the papers etc

I generally travel for work to Heathrow quite often (17/18 times a year) and travel often internationally (EU, USA) as well.

My question is which option might be best for me to get one:

1. ID all the small ADs and try building a good relationship (not buying but being nice and genuine)

2. Visit all the airport ADs when I'm travelling

3. Both 1 and 2

4. Fly to smaller ADs in smaller towns in Italy and try getting one there

5. Just get a Tudor GMT instead!!

I've created a survey here:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XT5MF6Z

I don't mind private messages either if you're not comfortable posting here.

Would like people's views please. Thanks

Well 1-4 will not be an option for the foreseeable future unfortunately. The alternative is to pay the grey premium if you want it now

Forget about getting a new one from an AD. They are in very short supply and they are an allocation piece, meaning they go to chosen customers or VIP’s only. Really, forget it, you are wasting your time. Even spending big money at your local AD will not mean you would get one, you’d need to be very very lucky which is doubtful. You will need to buy from the grey market if you want one. Sad but true reality check.

The best way is usually the simplest ....
As your son is only 3 you have time I expect
Go and visit your Local AD
Tell them what you are thinking about
Sometimes that strikes a nice chord
Heathrow Duty Free in T5 rarely has anything I am after. I’m there at least once a week.

I was thinking about that with the local AD.

Read somewhere on the forum someone emailing their AD regularly and got it in 3 years ( I know long time...but something)

Small ADs in Italy are probably the least likely option on this list! (Having just toured there...)

I've only mentioned small towns in Italy as someone on TRF suggested that that was how grey dealers got their watches....

Honestly any European town with a higher chance I'm good to go to.

The only other steel gmt is the BLNR (blue/black), which seems to be somewhat easier to acquire. The all back model has been discontinued for the time being.

Put your son’s name on the waiting list and by the time he is 21 he may get the call.

Firstly are you in a hurry ?
I doubt it as a 3 year old wine want a Rolex yet .. A toy car maybe.

If no hurry visit your local SD regularly .. Once a month is good.
Always chat to the same person ... preferable the owner or senior manager.
That way the staff turnover will be less.

choose an AD who is NOT on for example the main shopping st in Edinburgh ... Go for a smaller, non chain, independent You'll have more chance there.

I got mine in 2 weeks .. But I admit I am well known to my AD.

Also ... Do NOT get the Tudor GMT ... If its a rolex you want wait for the Rolex .. You'll never be happy with the Tudor is you are after a Rolex really.

If you want it any time soon, option 6 would be to buy from a grey dealer. Though even in that case you won’t be able to get an unnamed warranty card. I’ve heard that once the warranty expires which it would by the time your son is old enough, you send the Rolex in, they issue a 2 year warranty with a full service and you’ll get your name on that warranty.

The Pepsi GMT is worth it. It’s incredibly comfortable and a beauty to look at. I also think that by adding the jubilee to the Pepsi it pulls out some of that old charm from the original references.

I was passing through Heathrow recently and even there, you need to "register your interest" and be put on a list.

Talk to your local ADs but don't hold your breath. I don't want to discourage you but the likelihood of obtaining one this avenue is very low.

As one other member posted - grey market would be a possibility if you're interested in this piece.

Otherwise, budget is an issue you have other options... Look at Tudor GMT Pepsi or a vintage 5 digit BLRO

It's definitely a looker!

Good luck

I did #3 for about 14 months and got myself a Hulk last April. Along the way, I passed up Blue Skydweller, a number of black Subs, a Black GMT, Seadweller 42, a couple of Explorer 2's, and WG Daytona's...

My friend did point #2 and got himself a steel Daytona Black Dial.

Enjoy the hunt and don't get frustrated when you have not find that GMT you want... It is NOT impossible.

Yes. Even the AD eyes were widen and asked, "... are you sure? This is very difficult to come by." It was a pretty ugly watch and because of the size, it was a big ugly DateJust.

I believe in karma... and already gotten a reward with a Hulk!

Have you thought about the WG version? You have lot of time on your hand until your son is of Rolex age. Avoid the grey market for all you can! Rather than feeding the greys you can save further funds with all the time you got and go for the PM version . That’s my
