If no hurry visit your local SD regularly .. Once a month is good.

Always chat to the same person ... preferable the owner or senior manager.

That way the staff turnover will be less.

choose an AD who is NOT on for example the main shopping st in Edinburgh ... Go for a smaller, non chain, independent You'll have more chance there.

I got mine in 2 weeks .. But I admit I am well known to my AD.

Also ... Do NOT get the Tudor GMT ... If its a rolex you want wait for the Rolex .. You'll never be happy with the Tudor is you are after a Rolex really.
No not as such.

Thanks for the advice. Luckily there is one within a 15 min drive away.

Am thinking I need to do the same with multiple nearby smaller dealers (unfortunately not too many pickings)

It's a bit odd but for some reason I don't see my local dealer on the Rolex website. Last time I checked (6 months or so ago) in-store they were. Is the Rolex website the best source for locating ADs or am I missing something?

As one other member posted - grey market would be a possibility if you're interested in this piece.

Otherwise, budget is an issue you have other options... Look at Tudor GMT Pepsi or a vintage 5 digit BLRO

It's definitely a looker!

Good luck

Great shot! Fjallraven jacket? If so, I have the exact one. Same watch too. Good taste.

I am not sure what to tell the OP. I don't really understand the idea of passing an expensive watch down to your son, unless you happen to be so rich that paying for his education, some travel and his first home are no problem at all. If paying for any of these might represent a hurdle I would help him with that first. Your son can earn his own watch one day and he will probably appreciate it even more.

And OP, if YOU want the watch, just get it for yourself.

I vote to go talk to your AD. I “won the lottery” with my BLRO. Your best bet is to have a precious relationship - they asked me and luckily my now wife had bought a pair of earrings at a different store. Don’t know if that would have been a dealbreaker it or not.

I was honest and said I wanted my wedding watch to be a BLRO but I knew it was virtually impossible and asked to look at a few DJs. After talking she pulled it out of the back.

I generally travel for work to Heathrow quite often (17/18 times a year) and travel often internationally (EU, USA) as well.

My question is which option might be best for me to get one:

1. ID all the small ADs and try building a good relationship (not buying but being nice and genuine)

2. Visit all the airport ADs when I'm travelling

3. Both 1 and 2

4. Fly to smaller ADs in smaller towns in Italy and try getting one there

5. Just get a Tudor GMT instead!!

I've created a survey here:

That ship has long sailed. No GMTs for non VIPs

Only choice is to buy at Market Price from a preowned dealer. Heathrow will not be holding them, they go to VIPs.. to give you a feel for supply, they only get 2 a year

I think go for something else or buy at market price. The BLRO is overhyped

It is quite possible that the AD you knew is no longer an AD.

Rolex are cutting the AD lists down a lot. They are seemingly trying to keep it all in-house or sales via a much more restricted force.
they have chosen sa BIG group for the UK (WOS/Goldsmiths/Mappin). There are small groups and a few independents left though.

Italy .... Give up before you start. It's really hard to find them there and the locals buy them before you can blink.

If you figure in the travel costs and hotel etc to go abroad to find one you may as well just go grey here in the UK. Less stress and hanging about in airports.

I have just looked ..... There are several New, Unworn. Plastic Still on and no name on the card ones available right now.

This.. this is the issue.
They get so little of them and the 'list of interest' is a long one, getting them to choose to sell it to you is the problem.

I have a friend that got one, he got it the same day his father bought a platinum Daytona. I really don't think he would have got it if hadn't been bundled with that other big spend watch.

You've got time so join as many lists as you can and set a time limit, maybe 1 or 2, 3 years and if nothing comes then you can buy grey and you can save in the mean time.

Yup. Spoke to a great guy there, really knew his stuff. Discussed his possibly buying a vintage NOS 16570...

OP, if you’re a regular flyer, and are likely to encounter the same folk(s) in the boutique at T5, why not give it a go? Remember that WOS group (who own the boutique) don’t allow you to register interest in more than one place.

As a Tudor GMT owner, my advice would be to *not* go for it. They’re completely different watches - the Tudor is far less blingy and therefore more a casual watch. Great finishing, quality, and more worth the dough IMO, but you’ll be disappointed.

Sorry but no chance. Please realize getting a BLRO is like getting a free 6K+ from the AD. You can walk out the door, go to the first grey you see and sell it for 16K.

Why not pick up an EXP1? Its a classic and always will be. Seems to me a far better choice since you plan to give it to your son some day.

I got a new BLNR just by asking a dealer very politely and showing them that I wear my watches... I walked in with a sub ND, asked for a BLNR, they hadn't any off course but after about one month I got the call that they had one for me... This was beginning of may 2019, so just after they had been released to the dealers. I got very lucky I think!

Get a Tudor GMT instead - buy it from an AD that has both Rolex and Tudor. Start your relationship this way.

The OP will never be happy with the Tudor GMT.

It's clear he really wants a Rolex GMT.

They are quite different watches, wear differently and if the OP buys a Tudor he will sell it soon enough at a loss to get the watch he really wants.

Yeah but the difference is OP doesn't want to buy anything except the BLRO.

Sure lighting can strike by chance but WHY would AD sell one of hottest watches in the Rolex lineup to someone who doesn't want to buy anything except that one watch when the AD had customers who have spent $$$$$$$ over the years and also want the watch

Nice and genuine is part of process but not buying anything and still hoping to get blro is wishful thinking. Money talks in the AD/Rolex world

Many thousands of tens of thousands of people in this world chasing ADs who get 3-4 BLROs a year. Some who have spent $$$$$ money and OP thinks "nice and genuine" will win the day? Sorry but just being realistic.

Best of luck to OP.

Lol you really don’t like my posts today it seems.

I relied get the Tudor GMT because 1 - it was one of his options. And 2 - it sure beats stopping into every AD in every airport around the world hoping to catch a watch that’s guaranteed not to be available. I’m guessing the OP would rather have a Tudor than no watch at all. Which is precisely what’s going to happen if he’s hoping to just all of a sudden find one at an airport AD.

Be patient. You can get a new one with your name on it.

I waited only 18 months and just got one.

My local AD has offered my an explorer and no date sub. I said thank you but I really want to wait for the Pepsi gmt. They said they would try.

Your son is only three, not thirty - so I think you can wait for the real thing to pass onto him.

Good luck.

That's very positive to hear.

For the information of those that aren't based in the UK that Liangs store in Glasgow is on the busiest streets of Glasgow. Basically the Oxford Street of Glasgow.

It's good to hear about peoples successes like that. Congrats to the poster!!!!

So just went to my (what I had thought) was my local Rolex AD. Looks like they gave up their Rolex AD status last year (Dec 2018).

It's a shame cause they are really nice. Unfortunate.

The next closest ones are in Dundee and Gleneagles (Mappin). Will be trying those now.

How about a 16710?

How about considering a 16710? While they are not in abundant supply they are available for a more reasonable price than the current BLROs. If you can find one that hasn't been too abused a service at the RSC can bring it back to like-new condition. Regardless of the current bezel insert color, Rolex will install a Pepsi insert (however not on current series GMTs) and you'll have something more akin to the original. What you give up in modern features (new bracelet/clasp, ceramic bezel, latest movement, beefier case and crown) you make up in classic design and look and feel (tapered lugs, wears sleekly against the wrist, ability to change out the bezel from Coke to Pepsi to all black).

If your heart's set on the BLRO then keep the faith and continue the hunt as the reward will be all the sweeter when it finally comes to you.

Good luck....

I would buy from a re seller who has a newer piece under the Rolex warranty. If you go to the AD, no one can guess your wait time. My AD said the BLRO is harder to get than a white dial Daytona!? That means very rare. If you try to build a relationship with your AD, then you buy watches and jewlery that you probably don't want and maybe can't afford. Looking around at sites this morning I saw Takuya has a nearly new BLRO on his site now for sale. Other resllers here have them as well. Good Luck, hope you get one soon, because they are beautiful.
