CD peacock bizarre policy

I was at woodfield mall so I had to stop in to take a look around. Started chatting with the SA that was there. I expressed an interest in getting a steel Sub someday and got the usual “very hard to get” speech. But then they told me that they have a new policy the watch has to be engraved with my name matching the warranty card. Whaaaaat??? They said it’s to prevent people from flipping watches....
Has anyone heard of this before? If I want to engrave my new watch that is going to be my choice not theirs.

I’ve never heard of this before. I have heard of keeping the warranty card.

Perhaps they are just bluffing and even if they were not, i am sure you can just get a new case back.

lol I could do a quack. I could leave the warranty card with them too. But now they want to mess with the actual watch.

Shows the retaining of the warranty card isn’t working- I wonder what they will think of next as surely they can’t be serious

What is the price of this defaced watch? I assume they'll lower the price, since they insist on modding the watch to their own specs.

How pathetic they must think Rolex owners are. This tells me Rolex has officially lost touch with reality.
It’s only a watch and not any great life achievement to buy a watch.

I’m going to buy one, replace the case back, and then flip it just to piss them off.

Second time I've heard this. I don't think this practice will fly for long.

I'm sure it won't bother them, which is why this is bizarre.

I think you might have misunderstood what they said

I recently purchased a watch from cd peacock and they “engrave” or actually print (as with a printer), your name on the warranty CARD. Instead of writing in a name with a marker or leaving the name blank.

Definitely said they are engraving the caseback and it was a new change in policy.

Engraving the case back is defacing the watch. Report them to Rolex. I can't imagine Rolex approves of this kind of tomfoolery.

Nothing is preventing someone from buying the watch, being forced to engrave it and then just buying a new caseback.

If my AD ever throws in a free case back engrave I will happily accept. What could be more special? As long as it had the name of the recipient on it - I might be buying it as a gift.

I can understand how pissed off it would make somebody who didn't want their watch engraved. Sounds like another test of customer loyalty from an AD desperately flailing about and trying to pick something up by the wrong end.

And that's why the number of these crazy arrangements and the grey-market prices keep growing, because people are willing to submit just to get a watch...

Back in May, Ben Bridge basically implied that we had to get my gmt engraved. We did because we planned on it anyway but it’s definitely a weird “requirement”.

Two ADs have told me now that Rolex requires them to remove the stickers at time of sale.

Nothing about engraving or holding warranty for a year.

That sucks.

But if they have the BLRO or Daytona white in stock now I am fine with that. No plan to flip.
