Is it okay to wear an eight thousand dollar Iconic watch with a suit?

To be fair, non-watch types have no idea what these things cost. Honestly if you told them it cost $2000 they would pass out from shock that someone would spend that kind of money on a watch.

With suit and sports jacket all the time except when formal or dressy is more appropriate. This has been discussed to death...

It really depends on how hip you dress up. Distressed jeans, white or black button down, untucked with a black sports coat, silver GG belt, a Sub would work. Anything outside of that, give it take, just ain’t going to work and you’re going to feel (look) silly.

Do you wear SUBs, as a dress watch?

How you dress and situation but nothing to do with expensiveness of the watch. Think it differs from conservative Europe to US or China or Russia also.

I normally wear a less formal suit (blue or grey) and for example Explorer 16570, Sub would be ok to., when roaming around office in ‘startup’ environment. When having a pin stripe suit, tie and shiny shoes in a meeting with bankers a dress watch feels more appropriate. Think it’s about sensitivity to the situation, I don’t like to stand out for my clothing or watch.

Good point!

Do you really have to wear a suit at a startup?

That would be harmful to someone’s health out here.

Which is sad. Man, I miss New York!

It’s not that kind of startup with a bunch of 20’ something, just easy to have a ‘uniform’ and I don’t like t-shirt and jeans style.. although if I lived in a warm climate I’d reconsider.

Divers watches belong up to and including smart casual, once you have a jacket and tie on it's a dress watch for me. Just my opinion.

I prefer to wear my 36mm DateJust with a suit. With a sport jacket, button down, and jeans, I wear my SS Submariner Date.

13 pages! The OP is not lacking for answers. I think I've seen more then a few threads on this topic. Next up, can you wear a Sub with a dinner jacket? Watch for that one, because, about two pages in, someone, I promise, will announce that a gentleman should not wear a wristwatch at all with a dinner jacket!

I suppose there was a time, B.G.*, where men wouldn't wear a watch designed for diving with a suit, let alone a dinner jacket. In fact, there was even a time where only women wore wristwatches. A man carried his watch in a pocket, preferably with a chain.

Times change. Fashions come and go...and go round in circles. At the end of the day, whatever you wear is a matter of self expression. As long as it doesn't get you fired, carry on.

So, I will steal Shakespeare's advice: To thine own self, be true. If that means wearing a Submariner with a suit, then have at it.

It's hardly a daring move, anyway. I mean, has anyone ever been tossed from the 21 Club for wearing a Submariner with suit? It's a Rolex, for Heaven's sake.

Now, that said, if you're buying bespoke dress shirts, the fellow doing your fitting may just ask you about your wristwatch wearing habits, to size the cuffs properly. I promise he won't fire you if you tell him you wear a Rolex Submariner.

*BG = Before Goldfinger (EON Productions 1964 film, which featured a then popular Scottish actor. Sean something or other. Whatever happened to him?)

A suit? Not part of my attire at all. Only time I smarten up is for a funeral or when I get married (and that only happened once).

I wear my sub with anything.

Wear what you want... A Sub goes with a suit, tie and polished shoes just as well with T shirt, shorts and flip flops.

occasionally I wear a sports watch with a suit, but I so rarely wear a suit, it's usually a chance to get out one of the older classics.....
