Pens Pens Pens anyone interested in Pens?

This is a thread which where we will seek to gauge the interest in discussing pens and pen related matters such as buying and selling pens, paper, collectable pens, nibs, inks, writing etc. etc.

You're welcome to voice your opinion and talk about any of the topics alluded to above.

Pens are probably one of the closest collectable items next to watches, so I'm interested to see what response this brings.

As an idea goes, it's a good one, Steve.

Personally, I was never into pens, but I'm sure we do have a number of pen collectors on TRF who would be overjoyed to have such a section on our forum.

I think my pens are fast catching up my rolexes in value.
It's very easy to buy several pens and suddenly it's the price of a sub or something. Take it easy mate.

Pens are quite addicting to collect.

The more pictures I see of them on another forum, the more I want to buy and there are tons to decide.

Got to put the MB search on hold because of so many others.

Now you see why I said pens are expensive and addictive? and Steve still wants a forum for pens...
I shouldn't have told him about the Melbourne pen show...

I would rather have an Auto forum than pens

Of course there are a few other forums that would be cool but unfortunately this forum is too PC for diversity

I voted yes as I am a pen collector, just hope it is not a homage to everything Mont Blanc! Nice pens but there are others out there that have a lot going for them as well!

BTW, not MB bashing as I own a couple! Nice pens but not the best of the best out there as most pen collectors know!

Hopefully if you do do a forum on it people might be better informed as to what else is out there!

All for it Steve

I am already a member of FPN per Richard's (Bisquitlips) recommendation. It would be great to have a FP section here on TRF.

Ahh, but Ashley, think of the number of landfills filled every year with those !

Seriously though, I would encourage you to pop into your local pen shop and try a few fountain pens, there is something wonderful in writing with them and you don't have to spend a fortune! You can get a Lamy safari for around $40 that writes beautifully and can use bottled ink. Over the years you would save money over the bic's!

Sorry, once one get's into fountain pens you find us all trying to convert folks over to them

X2 I never caught the interest bug in pens.. but I do know a lot of TRFers have discussed them. I probably wouldn't view the section, but for those that would, let em have it!

I can see I'm in good company in this thread. I admit it, I have always been a pen freak. I posted pictures of my Mont Blancs but they are not my favorite writing pens. I have a 25 year old Pelikan which is so light weight and skims across the page. I love pens which are lightweight, have a fine point, gel ink and have a relatively wide diameter so my hand is not uncomfortably "scrunched" when I write. What about other people? What's your preferences?

Yes Faith, I prefer lighter pens as I write around 10 pages a day in my journal and the lighter weight makes things more comfortable. I also prefer a larger diameter pen even though I have smaller hands as I find it easier to grip the pen.

Have you tried the Nakaya's, I have one and love it! Mine is back where it came from having a new nib fitted. Ever since getting my vintage pens which on the whole have flexible broad stub nibs I have gone off finer nibs, can't wait for it to come back!

My Favorite pen is my 1926 Duofold special, what a nib that pen has got, it get's used every day as well!

Love Pelikans, am in the process of getting a vintage one.

As a fan of fine writing instruments I think a Pen sub-Forum would be worthwhile, Steve.
