Icon20 Pepsi vs. Blue Sky Dweller

Hi! I just bought some jewellery for my wife and the AD asked me which steel Rolex I would like. I told him, that I want to have a Pepsi and a blue Sky Dweller in my collection. He told me that I should choose one and I get it.

As I am a collector, I would have both in my collection at the end. So now I would choose the one, that is harder to get, to have better chances for the other. Which piece is harder to get nowadays?

I had a chance to buy both when they were released and I chose the BLRO. A lot comes down to what else you have in your collection and what you are looking for in a watch.

I prefer the GMT complication and the ability to read the time at a quick glance. The Skydweller is too complicated for my personal taste.

The GMT also is much more comfortable to wear than the Skydweller, (for me) YMMV

My mind locked up. Sorry neither.

Now if you said Black or White SD and LN GMT then I'd have a choice.

Owner of Blue Sky D, so I'm biaised, but my answer would be the SKyD as well. This is a wonderfull piece, very special.
I think legibility of the GMT function is lesser than on the GMT, but the whole Command Ring and Annual calendar complication makes for a superior watch in my opinion.

From conversations with multiple AD's the Blue Skydweller seems to be tougher to get your hands on. They said that Rolex makes fewer Skydwellers overall due to the complication, and then it is a crapshoot on dial colors.

I have both Brian. While the Pepsi is super comfortable, the jubilee on the skyD makes it pretty silky smooth as well. A little bit heavier but a good fit non the less.

If my wrist could pull it off, I’d go with the Skydweller. BLUE Skydweller is certainly much harder to allocate.

I'm definitely on board with the BOTH option as each are stunning in their own way!
However, if I had to choose, I'd go for the Pepsi. That is the one I am currently after right now. I got to try on a blue Sky-D with the Oyster bracelet early this year and it sure was a beauty! Sadly it was an exhibition only piece, otherwise I'd be an owner. Lol.

Here’s the solution

As a Rolex guy for awhile, this is how I determined.
I owned a 16750 from decades ago.
Then went to modern GMT 116710BLNR.
Was surprised on my 65th birthday with the Blue SkyDweller.
And finally got the new BLNR for the wife. (My least favorite of them all).

They are all in a rotation with a couple others.

SkyD is the one Rolex aficionados are thrilled to see the most.

Had the pleasure to try on blue Sky Dweller on jubilee 2 weeks ago when picking up my son’s sub, but was obviously spoken for, my AD said it’s the hardest SS model to get at the moment, this watch is gorgeous my favourite, also love the complication, so definitely gets my vote.

I like the look of the Sky-Dweller and the additional complications - so that would be my choice. I think it would be able to fit nicely in the collection and serve you well until you are able to allocate a BLRO.
