O Canada... I'm sorry Canada....
I hope you have no hard feelings...
There can only be one. The Lions of Ice!

Damn. Not again.
I guess because Connor McJesus didn't play. Congrats. Loved the Finns since Jarri Kurri was Gretzky's right hand man. |

Old pic I scored online before the game was over.
I must say, the Finnish team was the underdog. Thank you!

Congratulations, they were a lot tougher than I thought, physically. They deserved the win .

Finland were amazing .... very smart game-plan, including against Russia. Brilliant result and it is weird (in a good way) to see lots of Finns jumping around very happy as you are not the most demonstrative nation in the world!

I've always thought that North Americans have always had difficulty playing on the larger ice surface where Europeans who grew up with it seem to navigate it better even if they now play in North America on the smaller surface. Obviously Canada and the US have had some success but they usually look a bit lost. Europeans play a different style due to the extra room and play a lot of east west and puck possession where the North American game is now almost all north south.
The NHL now seems to benefit less talented players with good wheels instead of the super skill guys which in my opinion makes the game more boring now. Obviously Connor McJesus still looks pretty good but imagine guys like him if he had more room. Occasionally I've played on the Olympic Ice and all your angles are different for no look passes, blocking angles, bank passes etc. That extra 15 feet of width throws thing off. I though that during the NHLs last building spree a few years ago they should have increased the ice size to 100x200 the same as Olympic ice and then grandfathered in the remaining teams as they built new buildings. Much the same as happened years ago when Boston and Chicago had the smaller 85x185 ice when everyone else has 85x200. The players today are far too big and fast for NHL ice. European/Olympic Ice 100 wide x200 long NHL Ice 85 wide x200 long |

That's what I figured, Blues have a shot certainly but once the Lightning went down my feeling was the winner of the leafs B's series was going to go all the way. Sorry man, but you have a great team, they'll be heard from next year.

I think the Blues may just have a team that can beat Boston. I never thought the Sharks could.
If their secondary scoring and goaltending can hold up the way they did against the Sharks they may just do it. |
