Two questions on Seamaster 2254.50

Hi all,

As above, below are the questions. I am just seeking some opionion as nobody knows what holds for the future.

1) With the rising prices of omega new watches, do you think seamaster 2254.50 price will also in relative be brought up in price?
2) If so, how much would you think it might be in 5 to 10 years time.

Just seeking some ball park and estimate, I know it might not be accurate.
But thanks.

It's been going up based on being discontinued and a sought after model. Overall prices are going up.

It wasn't made for /that/ long a time, and is highly desired. The Bond Seamasters (2531.80) are very common but the 2254.50 really isn't, and I expect them to go up slightly.

The other high demand one is the "Great White" GMT, they've almost doubled since they were discontinued.

Nice mint examples of the 2254.50 with all boxes and papers are now selling for more I was able to buy mine new from the AD. I paid $1875 for my 2254.50 and the model is selling for $2000 + in the market today.

I think they will do nothing but go up especially when you consider their classic look, how well they wear on the wrist, accuracy/quality and as omega continues to upscale... Better market positioning of the brand.

It tops out at 2k.

Most likely resell, 1.5k.

1.2k or less, a real bargain.

My guesses anyway.

Just by the frequency of WTB ads looking for clean 2254.50's...I doubt you will see ANY at $1200 anymore and $1500 seems unlikely as well, again for a watch in mint condition with fell set of B&P and service history.

IMHO....

Yea $1300, maybe if it was head only, $1500 for a beaten up example or $2000-2500 for a mint full set sounds about right, BNIB, if they even exist any more probably around $3k.

I am thinking along $3k line too but with the increasing prices of the new omegas, I still think $3k resale price for a mint condition 2254.50 is still undervalue.

Condition is everything, especially with discontinued models. The well-worn examples will remain cheap and the mint ones will float up in price slowly over time.

I also have a 2254.5 and have enjoyed it for the past two years. Lately I am considering selling it.

Interesting thing is that when these watches were sold, $3000 was above sale prices, so a mint example has actually exceeded its original value.

There are a few watches, the 2254.50, the Ti-Tan-Rau SMPC, the SMP America's Cup, and the recent Liquid Metal Planet Ocean that have all exceeded their MSRP on the used market after being discontinued. I know there's a common theme that Omega's depreciate hard, but really, its not always the case. If you bought a 2254.50 or a LM PO, you've done better than most 16610 Submariner owners on long term resale.

Its approaching topped out I think. Brand new in 07 mine was about $1400. It was a nice watch with a classic look. I replaced mine with a sea dweller and had bought the 2254 as a temp substitution for a SD. In my case the SD was always the goal but I do like the 2254 although it appeared "fancy" compared to the sea dweller. I prefer the more tool look.

Bottom line buy it if you like it don't speculate on watch prices.

Hi,

Over the past month, I noticed that there actually not much sales or resales of this model. This model is currently getting harder and harder to find mint and price is creeping up indeed.

I recently sold my 2254 close to the MSRP AUD price that I paid for. Given it's age and LNIB condition, I am not complaining. There is definitely a strong demand for the 2254 out there.

I have been watching the PO LM used maker price as well, I believe they are currently priced slightly below the MSRP at the moment. There are not many for sale at the moment and I think owners are hanging to it.

In my opinion, with the current release of the new PO 8500 and PO LM 8500 Ti, this may have driven the PO LM 2500 down abit. Maybe when the excitement of the new release PO has died down, the demand for the PO LM will increase and place the price above MSRP?

This is true but the 2500LM is nothing like the 8500LM in that its a 42mm, gloss instead of matte, and limited while the new LM is unlimited.

Some may argue the PO 8500 have better movements than the PO LM 2500. To me, I found the newer PO 8500 slighty thick on the case and the matt dial and bezel is not to my liking compared to the PO LM.

I guess we'll see how the Limited edition of the PO LM fare in the future. I say in a year or so, when WIS starts to look at discontinued watches which appeal to them.

I think that's exactly it, 2254.50 didn't gain its cult following until people started seeing how scarce they were. The LM is dramatically more limited than the 2254.50, but the thing both have in common is that they're both nearly faultless, timeless designs. 42mm size, black on steel, its a perfect watch for wearing with anything.

That said, people who buy them and don't wear them, well that's nice that we can still buy NIB examples, but really, the difference between mint and LNIB is negligible compared to the enjoyment you get from wearing it. Take your stickers off people!

Bumping up a thread five years old , but how I wish I had a crystal ball for future classics . Try picking up a mint 2254 for less than £2500.00 now , so glad I bought mine new in 2003 , it's a keeper for sure .

I don't post a lot here, but did purchase a 2254.50 recently. I stumbled across this thread simply by looking for reviews on this watch.

I believe I acquired a superior deal at $1750. I paid that knowing I would immediately have it professionally serviced at a fee of $500 or so. Given prices continue to increase, I'm happy with this, my third Omega purchase.

I have owned mine for a few years and it still is one of my most favourite in the collection. Together with my 14060. An uncluttered dial, great legibility and lume. And low key on the wrist.
And yes, IMHO, as they are a popular watch they will continue to increase in value.

I paid 2k from a very respected member here. Full box, papers, runs very well and looked brand new when i got it. I think it may be one of those watches i just keep forever. Its a great watch if you are traveling out of the country and don't want to bring anything too crazy with you. Its extremely comfortable. Personally, i am fairly surprised this model hasn't approached 3k. Its a super classic looking diver for about 2 grand. If it was an in house movement it would be 3-4k all day.

x2. I regularly wear mine and never really thought of it as "investment grade" when I bought it new. More of a tool watch...... but it's a keeper.

The 2254.50 is a true "cult watch" from Omega. Distinctive style, absolutely radioactive lume, thin profile (it's only 11mm thick!), sword hands, and highly reliable pre-Coaxial movement you can service anywhere. You'll find countless threads extolling the virtues of this watch. It's the same case and movement as the famous "James Bond" 2531.80 wave dial model.

But I don't think the 2254.50 is investment grade, at least not yet. Omega made a decent number of this model, and I've been following sales threads and eBay sales on this watch for a few years now. My personal theory is that the value on this watch (as well as the 2531.80 "Bond" watch) started to spike after Omega came out with the ceramic bezel Seamaster Pro models in 2012, which were thicker and did away with the iconic wave dial and, for many, were less desirable than the wave dial models like the 2254.50.

The prices as of 2014 had pretty much topped out at around $2500 U.S. for one in very good condition. I've not really seen them go up in value since then. There might be another spike in the future, but for now, they've pretty much stabilized around $1,800-$2,300 depending on the condition, etc.
