I was underwhelmed with my Speedy. I think I may have a different experience if I bought an older one. I particularly like some of the Ed White models.

It may be weird to think of this way, but I think the Speedy is a great vintage watch, but a mediocre modern one. Just my 2 cents.

I want a Speedmaster, but the new 44mm version (on the right)

I was a bit disappointed, given the speedmaster's iconic status. Not sure what exactly was missing.

Anyone else have that reaction to a speedmaster or omega?

The search continues!

Thanks.
Praise the lord. He is trying to tell you to buy another Rolex.

I can understand why someone would be underwhelmed given the amount of bling and bulk on many newer watches (Omega included). But its understatement is part of its appeal. Take time to look at the dial. I challenge anyone to say it's not the best designed chrono dial ever. It's perfect - everything is clear and legible and lined up with the perfection of a total eclipse Look at the beautiful curving lines on the case and the roundness of the face. Look at the elegance of the chrono hand. It's a design icon in my view.

The same goes for the other versions of the watch. I'm a hessalite lover but the sapphire crystal version is still a very fine watch with the convenience of scratch proof crystal. The Sapphire Sandwich allows you to view that beautiful movement in all its glory.

I'm a Rolex man as well but the Daytona has never done it for me. Sure it's a great and iconic watch and I would love to add one to my collection and I would wear it with pride, but I just think it's case and dial clunky and crude compared to the more elegant Speedmaster.

I agree w/your comments.

If you've worn nothing but a Rolex, it's tough to get used to a Speedy. The simplicity of the Sub looks bland next to the Speedy, but I favor the simplicity. I've been wearing the Speedy .006 the last couple days and I'm still not used to it. I keep having buyer's remorse in the back of my mind.

The design and historical elements are timeless. Its a very good looking watch. From those view points alone I miss mine.

I consider myself a rolex guy, but I really like the speedy I just bought. Wasn't underwhelmed at all, as I do not compare it to rolex. Perfect for days I am in the moonwatch mood :-)

I think Every Rolex lover could use a speedy in the collection.
Oh man--a moonphase? I don't see those very often.

I'm also torn on the Speedy. I've owned a few and flipped them all but yet I still want another one. Mine were all newer models but I definitely want an older one if I get another one.

I agree with what others have said, the bracelets on the newest models are awful. I have Seikos with nicer bracelets and clasps.

So what if the bracelet is underwhelming; rock the Nato it comes with: done deal. The versatility, price point, history and under the radar: make this an appealing proposition.

I coveted the Speedy for a while and then bought one, now Im questioning if I should sell it, something about the Hesalite being such a scratch attracting crystal. Anyone out there bought and sold a speedy and wished they hadn't??

I have tried on a few, but somehow I never felt that sizzle that tells you that you have to have one.

However, as I look at the pics in this thread, I think maybe I need to try some on again....

I know what you mean. You have to go back a few times. I was comparing SMP with DJII and Milgauss, Explorer and decided on the SMP. I've been wearing mine every weekday for the last 3 weeks and I always stare at the dial and movement through sapphire caseback.
