Speedy Moonphase
I've been kicking around getting a speedmaster for the last six months but I haven't seen anything that really screams BUY ME! The Moonphase watch is now popping up and I am really liking it on black leather. In order to maintain my self imposed 5 watch limit I will have to trade my SM 300. Any opinions on the Speedmaster Moonphase?

Quite honestly....at first glance on on the wrist....I find it to be a spectacular watch. It feels great and wears nicely despite the case size. Where my problem lies with the watch are 3 major points:
1) The way the second hand runs with the date on the 9' o clock subdial. 2) The crescent hand that marks the date.....to me it looks like a crab claw.... 3) Although not easy to see.....the fact that there is Aldrin's footprint on the moon. These are the issues I took with the watch and that's what's kept me away. But other than these things I think the movement advancement and aesthetics are really first class. |

Its funny you should mention the crescent hand that grabbed my attention also ...Aldrin's footprint on the moon I don't understand your objection. Also I was concerned with the 44.5MM size being too large I am hoping to see and actually try one on at an AD. Thank you for the comments much appreciated

I've got both. Like both very much.
Perfect watch? I'd go 300 as the moon phase is very big. But both area amazing. Anything else you can move?

I love love love the Speedmasters. But I much prefer the traditional small date window at the six o'clock position to the date dial. This new model checks all the boxes for me. I really don't care much about the moon phase display and I'm enthralled with the new 44.25mm size.

I don't like this model due to the size, the thickness and the funny date C crawl date pointer in red. It's ugly in my opinion. This watch had lost its heritage in moonwatch, that's why is known as moonphase.

I absolutely love this watch. Incredibly comfortable to wear on the wrist and the dial is stunning! The METAS movement inside the watch is equally impressive. It's also pretty cool that Omega took a NASA moon photograph and made an exact replica on the watch for the visual.

I'm going to be near Palm Beach on the 29th without my wife for a few days plenty of AD's in the general area so the perfect opportunity to go watch shopping hoping to try one on I don't want to make the same mistake I did with the Daytona bought it based on pics and never liked it once I got it on my wrist

I'd like to add that the moonphase really is a special watch.
The dial is incredible. The finish is also incredible. I LOVE the moonphase complication. For me, it really adds to the whole time keeping theme. I also don't mind the date situation one bit. I just wish it was a little smaller.

I could live with the size and the thickness but not with unreadable date.

I saw the brown speedy moonphase the other day at local OB, it just does not do it for me. The moonphase art has that 'printed' look

I do like the moon phase dial. It's just that you have to choose between the moon or the date. For me and my scatterbrain inability to keep the date straight without help, the six o'clock date window wins out. If I could have 'em both I would. But if I must choose, I'll take the date.

I did exactly that. Went to an OB at a mall and tried on the new 44.25mm model. Perfect for my relatively beefy wrist. I figure my next Speedmaster will be a 42mm model with manual winding, then a 40 and eventually the Reduced model. I'm really starting to love those Japan-only models with the Panda dials.

The blue Moonphase is just killer. I would have to see one, but I think the size is just too big (for me).
Please Omega, make it in a 42mm.... |
