I always got the impression that once you became a WIS, it was one's responsibility to ensure that you help other WIS's be happy by assisting them even if you had to push a bit to get them interested in more watches.

I couldn't say it better. Exactly my top 5 in terms of watchmaking. I think VC ALS a little higher than JLC but it's close. Rolex is IMO the number 1 watch for the middle class person that loves watches and it's perfect in almost every situation.

The brands that come in my mind are Patek Philippe, Rolex, A. Lange & Söhne, Jaeger Lecoultre, Omega and Audemars Piguet. I don't have a particular order for those but I must say that Patek comes first, it is my ultimate brand grail.

Dan, I'll be very honest with you and say that I'm hesitating between a couple of models! If I had to buy myself a Patek someday (which I quite doubt) I would like it to be somewhat complicated but I would like my grail to remain relatively possible to obtain. Therefore I believe I can maybe hope for one of those:

Have you had the opportunity to go Patek window shoping yet? It's terribly fun even when not buying. Heck, I luv to window shop.

Have to, cause none can afford buy everything.

The only AD in Montreal is a bit far from my house so I didn't have the chance to try them yet. As for the Swiss one I went to I was very excited when I tried on a Calatrava but I must admit I regret it a bit today, had I known I would have stayed there longer and I would have tried more impressive pieces!

Don't worry, if I ever go to a Patek AD and try watches I'll let you know, whether I have pictures or not!

The first time I didn't have much of a clue either. Heck I have still got a ways to go myself. Give it sometime you'll get there. Just remember just because you can't afford one doesn't mean you can't enjoy looking.

Mini rotors are indeed wonderful! They let you admire the rest of the gorgeous movement they're attached to!

Great choice with the Patek. The Platinum as well very sweet. The diamond between you and the watch is such a nice touch, and I am really becoming a biog fan of the Bullseye. But it would have definitely been a cost that makes one think a couple of times even before three price increases of last year.

The rest of your list is real nice, and I often look at the Zenith and go Wow.

Tastes in watches are a funny thing for me. I have learned to like a couple things lately that I initially didn't care for 2 years ago. Somtimes I think it's having a bit of time before it grows on you.

My Ad who I work with, has over 60 watches himself. We were having a talk the other day. I was talking to him about this sane thing. How I once didn't care that much for this or that and now I do and I really apreciate how it looks. He said those which it took you awhile before they grow on you are somtimes are the ones which you learn to love the most and they often stick with you for a longer time.

I'm not saying you'll ever learn to love JLC or VC, but then again you may.

You're absolutely right, especially on the highlighted part. I didn't much care for AP and Patek 2 years ago, but now I'm all for them. There's a chance I'll discover and fall in love with JLC and VC in the future. Maybe even RM or Roger Dubuis, who knows

For me it's a combination of both. The model has to be there for me to love it, because that's what your going to wear and look at when you wear it. But it's now just important to me that the brand excites me as well. I am looking for something with a bit of history, and what makes them special, what type of product are they known for producing, to what lengths do they go to in regards to the details and execution of the watch. It helps to fuel my passion just a bit.
